The Pursuit of Happyness Reviews

This movie absolutely moved me and my perception of poverty. Will Smith's performance is fantastic, elevated the movie so much. One of my favorite ever.

a movie that tells the true story of Chris Gardner, a man who goes through very tough times to build a better life for himself and his son.

An emotionally powerful and insighftul biographical drama film heightened by Will Smith's touching performance as Chris Gardner, The Pursuit of Happyness does occasionally drag, but this is a movie that works so well because it not only shows Gardner's "pursuit of happyness" in terms of work, but also his relationship with his son and how they experience personal growth with one another.

Felt somewhat immersed in the story despite its dragging.

Such a beautiful and sad film.

I was expecting more. Everyone says it’s such a good movie but to me, it’s not that good compared to the other movies i’ve watched. Towards the end it starts getting better. But it is slow at the beginning.

Great story line, the zeal for greatness. It starts with a step and hardwork with consistency

Very powerful movie. Strong acting, plot, cohesion, and character development. Very immersive movie. Hollywood should make more movies with this realistic theme of struggling single parents, or even couples. Adding a child always magnifies the emotions of the viewers. This is a very unsaturated area in cinema. Keep drugs and alcohol out of the picture to really build the strong contrast of emotions of rooting for the parents and their child(s) and anguish for the setbacks the characters face.

I could not make it through this movie. It's such a heavy downer that after an hour of watching this guy's life fall apart over and over and over again, I couldn't take it anymore. I'm sure it had a wonderful payoff at the end, but it was just way too depressing to get through.

This part of my life, this part right here, this part is called ''being stupid''. - Chris Gardner

Hoge hype maar kon me toch niet echt raken. Verhaal is mooi en heeft betekenis, maar wel eentonig. Worth a Watch.

The Pursuit of Happyness brings a real and evoking message to the audience. The theme is not that money brings happiness, but that the struggle to live in a modern society is a curse many can't escape. It is accurate to our own world, where it does not matter if you are educated and determined, you can still receive the short end of the stick. We have taxes, fines, and tickets, all that constantly drain the cash of the middle and lower class. The film encompasses one's will to pursue happiness and their right to live comfortably, despite unfair and tragic events that occur. Happiness can not be bought, happiness can not be owned. To have happiness in life, you must always be in pursuit of it. That is what happiness is, not what you own or control, but happiness is the ability to overcome challenge and always pursue it, to never give in or give up. Truly a fantastic film about family, society, emotions, and willpower.

I love this movie and it shows money cannot be used for your self and you can use it help your family

This is such a capitalist movie.

This movie is so inspiring. I was lucky enough to be brought up in a well off family and never knew how being broke felt. This movie showed me for the first time what being broke truly is. The acting is amazing and the story/plot is fantastic. I really felt bad for this family and felt how bad they were struggling. The soundtrack was great and have no problem with the writing. My only regret is that the ending didn't leech enough onto the title. I didn't really feel the happyness that was hoped for in the movie. This movie is a must-watch, which makes you feel grateful for what you have and how hard work pays off. Well deserved 9/10

« The Pursuit of Happyness » est un film bouleversant où Will Smith livre l'une de ses meilleures performances. L'histoire de la lutte d'un père pour offrir un avenir meilleur à son fils est poignante et profondément émotive.

*** SPOILER ALERT *** Absolutely incredible movie based on a true story showing the hardships of a mother and father trying to raise their child after they invest their life savings into a medical product that they think will turn their life around. The father becomes a sales man and really learns the crucial elements of becoming a people person. The struggles that the family goes through shows when you see the parents arguing every other day about the situation that they live in due to the father not having a stable job being a salesman selling the medical products and the mother having to pull extra hours to make up for the lack of sales. The mother leaves the father and tries to take the child away before realising that she wouldn't be able to look after the boy on her own. The movie then focuses on the bond that the father has with his son and that he would anything and everything to bring him the best life. They go through living in a flat to living out a hotel room to being homeless sleeping in a metro toilet to then being given shelter in a church. This movie shows the gritty life that living in poverty brings to people and even though he doesn't allow his son to see it in the movie this is painfully upsetting for the viewer. As much as the movie is deeply upsetting it is equally hopeful as you see the father relentlessly fighting to give his son a better life and thankfully in this true story this becomes reality. Towards the end of the movie when he is offered a job as a broker after passing his painfully tricky internship you see Chris Gardner crying and going through the whole movie with him seeing the highs and the lows you can't help but shed a tear yourself.
