Rampage Reviews

The bulk of the problems with “Rampage” lie with the script. Four writers are credited (or to blame, depending on your perspective) with putting this hodgepodge together.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Aug 24, 2022

Neither deliciously campy nor elevating the material, Rampage feels like it checks every box mandated by the studio's publicity department, while leaving everything onscreen achingly boring, unless you're an 8-year-old boy.

| Original Score: 0.5/4 | Mar 14, 2022

The dialogue usually follows a pattern of passable human conversation, super-clunky exposition, then a B-minus quip.

| Original Score: C+ | Aug 21, 2021

The movie serves its purpose, and it knows exactly what it wants to be: a mess of bodies and buildings with huge monsters...and the Rock.

| Original Score: 6.7/10 | Aug 14, 2021

The thing about Rampage is that while there is a fair amount of action, it's interspersed with sub-plots that don't really add anything to the story and has quite a few typical character clichés.

The kind of big budget b-movie where it takes four credited writers to come up with bon mots like, 'I can't believe we survived that,' and 'Thank you for saving the world.'

| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 4, 2021

Rampage is a riot. The roars, the destruction, the explosions, the huge jaws, and the stern brows.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 30, 2021

Oversized beasts may tumble into abandoned buildings aplenty, but they also demonstrate some impressive cinematographic tricks.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Dec 7, 2020

Look, in order to appreciate this film, you're going to have to turn your brain off for a couple hours. If you think too hard, the experience will be tainted...I had a good time because I expected fun nonsense.

The actors know what movie they're in and have fun with it. They're able to ride that fine line of playing cartoon-ish characters without overacting.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Nov 5, 2020

A little mindless fun.

| Original Score: 2.5/4.0 | Sep 20, 2020

Inoffensive and well-made visually, it's let down by an inconsistent tone and just a mind-numbing final 30 minutes.I can't say it's a bad movie for the genre it's in though...

| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 15, 2020

In a script filled with bad dialogue, one line actually broke me up: "When science messes the bed, I'm the guy they call to change the sheets." In that case, to quote The Rock, this movie is a "500-pound bag of monkey crap."

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Aug 29, 2020

There are some ropey moments that stick out like a sore thumb, and the stabs at emotion are utterly useless.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 14, 2020

Despite the $120 million worth of damage, each set piece keeps its giant feet stuck in cement, remaining utterly stagnant despite the multitude of debris.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Jul 24, 2020

It's strange how a movie that is nearly non-stop action would feel so tedious.

| Original Score: C- | Jul 17, 2020

Rampage is pure escapism that brings a touch more than normal to the giant monster destruction formula.

If someone has to team up with a great ape to fight a giant lizard and spine-covered wolf, I guess I'm glad it's Dwayne Johnson.

| Original Score: C | Jul 1, 2020

It's undeniably entertaining and moves like a locomotive let off the tracks. There's not a lot of time to get deep or explore the characters, but does anyone really want that from a Dwayne Johnson movie?

As far as cinematic adaptations of video games go, Rampage is one of the better ones.
