I’m a big fan of America Ferreira. She did an excellent job in this movie. Wondering how it will do as a Broadway musical

Helppp the acting 🥲 our teacher made us watch this and omg why did they start stripping down mid movie? ALso the mc has like a rbf and never changes throughout the movie. Also the getting accepted into Columbia was unexpected and kinda weird... no one is taking applications right before the school year starts, esp not an ivy! also why was she body shamed by her mom who was also horizontally tall? the pointless back and fourth between the mom and MC wasn't even warranted and after like cursing up a storm and telling each other off they go back to being like everything is normal? so disfunctional and unrealistic i was lost watching this

I have mixed emotions about this movie. Ana’s family makes me want to put my fist directly into the tv. I feel that her mother is insanely stubborn and annoying. They won’t let her take a once in a lifetime opportunity. Instead they want her to stay in a brick building and make dresses for 20 bucks that are sold for 600$. Not sure what there thinking behind this was but It makes want to destroy the film altogether. And since when can 80 yr old women get pregnant

Great movie about a Mexican family and the generation gap.

THIS MOVIE! Every Latina daughter can relate to someone in this movie. America Ferrera shines (as usual) and speaks only truth as a Latina daughter growing up with such a tight knit family.

I really liked this movie. Women who think they must be thin to be desirable should watch this movie.

It's a good film to watch. Inspired how a young woman can stand up to her social environment and carve her own path despite the psychological demands of her family.

Such a great representation of the complicated and competing forces of life. America Ferreira is amazing. She carry’s most of the emotion and drama and expresses inner conflict outwardly through acting. Just brilliant really. It could be a seen as somewhat schmaltzy but by todays standards where everything is depressing it’s a pleasure to watch.

Anchored by an endearing performance from America Ferrera, this comedy of a precocious Mexican American teenager's stouthearted passage into womanhood is an uplifting ode to latinx feminism, plus size women and sapiosexuality in this superficial cosmopolitanism when physical attractiveness usually reigns.

This movie is an important one to add to the list if you are a fan of coming of age films. Ana is an endearing but fierce main character who embodies many of the fears, aspirations, and difficulties that young women have in America, especially for those who grow up in Latino/a American culture. It sheds a light on the hardships that are often faced by working-class Americans, and also on the ways that mainstream culture can convince women that they aren't good enough as they naturally exist. Overall, an entertaining, heartwarming, and educational film.

I've looked long and hard for something worthy in this coming-of-age, because I do like coming-of-ages... but did not find anything. Comedy / direction / acting / story, everything is way below average. Lo siento Mija.

I just watched this (while multitasking) with my wife. It's a decent movie but I really did not like the parents, especially the Mom. Where I believe that an important job of a parent is to encourage their child to follow their dreams, and to want them to have a better future then "they" did. Not this Mom. All she did was tear Ana down, belittle her, and insult her. She tried to force a conservative life on her. And in the end, she couldn't even support her going to college. I found that jacked up. But I did like how Ana had the confidence, and will to see herself as more than the sum of her physique, or as want a "man" (or anyone) may want from her. I admired her strength of self, despite her Mom's negativity.

It was kind of a snooze fest and kinda racist And the acting was bad it was just another go women movie

This film was not my favorite but it is a different take on the coming of age story so that makes it passable.

An intimate portrait of mother daughter struggles where the daughter has overcome stigmas of the mother generation.

An unknown movie that might gain a new audience thanks to America Ferrera's new role in Ugly Betty. This is a gem of a film. A superb cast; Fererra is amazing here. A story all young girls should see; a positive message filled film with real heart and guts.
