Rec 3: Genesis Reviews
Lulls you into expecting a redundant experience in its opening minutes, only to entirely circumvent expectations while being as satisfying as its predecessors.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 22, 2023
It’s exceedingly gory, more so than its predecessors, and its lack of technical ingenuity and half-hearted use of the “found footage” device somehow makes it less interesting.

This movie doesn't negotiate its shifts in tone quite as nimbly as Wright's did, but its blend of absurd humor, bloody thrills, and genuine human emotion took me by surprise, and I mean that in a good way.

A head scratching entry, marred by bad decisions by the people behind its, um, genesis.

The extremely entertaining and creepy REC films from Spain have fallen over the jagged precipice of one sequel too many with REC 3: Genesis.
| Jul 30, 2019
Inconsequential.

While [Rec] 3: Genesis is admittedly the campiest film in Paco Plaza's trilogy ... he manages to keep changing it up enough that it doesn't feel tired.
| Mar 4, 2019
A bizarrely playful addition to the [REC] series that opts for comedy over horror, despite plenty of blood on offer.
| Feb 28, 2019
There's strikingly little new or fresh about the decaying corpse that is [Rec] 3.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 2, 2019
The religious element of the narrative is amplified. As a result, seeing the second film, in which this connection is revealed, goes a long way in explaining some of the occurrences.
| Oct 22, 2018
A worthy effort in the series and a nice twist on the first two.
| Jul 2, 2018
Offers some dark laughs, bloody kills, and moderate thrills.

Well, bite me, if this movie didn't suck.
| Original Score: D+ | Dec 3, 2012
Like with the previous films, you can expect lots of blood and gruesome kills, but after a while, you come to the realization that the filmmakers aren't doing anything new with the series, turning this into a rather perfunctory exercise.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Nov 5, 2012
...a garden-variety zombie movie that boasts few attributes designed to separate it from its legion of competitors.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Oct 21, 2012
A bit short on original ideas, but at 81 minutes, it's difficult to say that it's too long. Some may feel that the humor betrays the mood of first two movies, and that dropping the reality style was a mistake, but I disagree.

Just because a movie is subtitled doesn't mean it's any more imaginative or better crafted than domestic films.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 17, 2012
Even when fully acknowledging its flaws and underdeveloped ideas, one can still find loads of fun rampaging through the film.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Sep 14, 2012
Perhaps Paco Plaza's fictional virus finally got to him because the fact that he thinks he can do away with found footage and horror in the third installment is downright bizarre.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 8, 2012
Beyond the basic idea and the few clever gems that spawn from it, [REC] 3 doesn't improve on the formula much.
