Reign of Fire Reviews
while not perfect its enjoyable fun with a serious edge. Maybe its partly nostalgia, as I saw it 23 years ago at the cinema as a child but I have a real soft spot for this film and the two main performances are strong and work well together
The characters are superficial but they work. A movie ahead of his time.
Given the cast and atypical choice of director I obviously expected something more than mid-tier early 2000's Hollywood blockbuster fare that feels more like a B-side from Michael Bay than an involving inspired work.
Props for being the only good dragon film. It has a cool modern twist and fun action, along side its colorful characters it's more than the sum of its parts. Matthew McConaughey steals the show and Christian Bale holds its heart, creating a balanced action drama. It's not a breath taking masterpiece, but it's a breath of fresh air in the genera of dragon slaying monster movies. Kinda a 2000s era gem in it's own right.
Good acting by a stellar cast and excellent effects .
The most underrated scif-fi action movie of the modern age. Denton Van Zan and Kentucky Irregulars alone are worth four stars.
All of these poor ratings probably thought Pacific Rim was bad too. Yah, it was. But it was awesome, and FUN. This movie is 22 years old, pull the stick out of your ass and enjoy this very unique film with an extremely talented and famous cast.
This movie had all the promise in the world yet really failed to live up to most of it. The setting is great and the idea is wonderful but badly put together.
So many big names for such an awful movie.
Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey star in this Touchstone release about a post-apocalyptic world where dragons have taken over as the dominant species. This is an original take on the dragon vs. human tale. The special effects are good for the most part, the first dragon fly-by looked like you could see through the dragon to me. The CGI destruction that I was hoping for wasn’t here and that was a big let down as they just narrated over the human downfall. The story has a few plot holes and overt conveniences that I thought brought down the overall movie. Bale and McConaughey both have some good acting moments. I think there is a limited audience that would find this movie entertaining, and if you think you’re in that group then give this movie a watch.
Awesome movie, great action, 5 stars!
I love the first half of the movie. The tone and ambience is so great but it loses itself halfway and the ending feels rushed and anticlimactic.
I was so excited to see this as a child for the first time. A world of dragons and a trailer that made it seem awesome. Then after the first scene every single thing that would've been great about this movie was expositioned in the opening credits. The rest of the movie is a bunch of bingos doing everything they can to make sure humanity dies off until thankfully this disaster was finally over.
I'm confused as to why this doesn't rate more highly. I've loved it since its release over 20yrs ago(!). The casting choices were brilliant, as all leads work so well together, and carry the story of their characters. The visual aspects of the movie are well matched to the story, including the level of pyrotechnics and action. As for the dragons, they are probably the best iteration I've seen on screen. All-in-all, it's a good fantasy action movie with all elements equally matched, delivering something that is enjoyable to watch time and time again
One if the best movies made at its time and the graphics still stand today. The story was great and the action was so well done. This movie still does better than most movies 20 years later
one of the best dragon movies out there.
I love this movie. I'm doing my part for the fellas.
I have always liked this movie so much. And great performances.
"Mad Max" visiting "Jurassic Park" with loose dragons in a post-apocalyptic scenario, benefitting as a spectacle treat, carried by a decent cast giving their all with acceptable written treatment suiting their gritty charisma, but overall doesn't impress much nor amplify the presented thrills that were left flat. (B-)
McConaughey and Bale are great, but Van Zan is much interesting character than Quinn. The movie itself doesn't have the depth to keep me in my seat, if it was t for the cast.
