Relic Reviews
Sayang oras.
This movie is a metaphor for Alzheimer’s/dementia and how it wreaks havoc not only on its victim, but those close to the victim as well. Excellent horror movie, very well acted, directed, and written. There is a scene that you as the viewer almost feel confused and disoriented as well. This isn’t a slasher or jump scare movie but one that just has you feeling tense throughout. Great film.
Slow but a good movie.
This is a good movie. If dementia feels like this, then live can become a bad, oppressive dream.
A lovely slow burner that notches up the tension, but... it doesn't really go anywhere.
Overrated film imo Had a few interesting elements & I get the metaphors but man it still felt vanilla Australia can do better than this in the horror space
Boring/shitty/slow/nonsense (women’s)
The ending was really stupid. I had to actually google, “what is with the end of Relic?” The first 20 minutes were okay, but I kept asking myself what the hell is going on here? Yeah, yeah..I get it was a metaphorical movie, but still, no thanks.
Okay! The parallel world behind the walls was interesting and unnerving.
Absurd. One of the worst pieces of gibberish I've ever seen.
Everything happens in the last 20 min
I hate lazy endings. Especially when the movie is constantly in need of an explanation.
Natalie Erika James "Relic" absolutely one of my favourite horrors in recent years. With three strong leading performances & the way it uses a hereditary illness like Dementia within it's elements of horror is genuinely creepy & atmospheric. A personal terrifying experience as you watch familiar surroundings & memories twist & crumble away.
Unrelenting in it's feeling of dread, it smartly weaves a metaphor that you have to see to understand. Can be numbingly bleak though and when it finished I couldn't help but feel resounding sadness. Though in saying this I think it's the very point.
**** some spoilers So I think this movie was supposed to be a really creepy devastating take on aging and its effects, but it just didn't ring home unfortunately! It left a lot of un-answered questions for me that were important, like what the hell was that random dimension the daughter got stuck in! And what was that shadow that kept following her!!!? And I thought there was going to be a massive revolution at the end that all the characters were her but at different life points…. But no, that would have been epic if they did that! Had the potential to be a good movie I think but the lack of clarity and resolution ruined it as a viewer in my opinion I wouldn't waste your time. My review is 3/10 #movie #moviereview #relic #prime
The metaphor is a little too heavy handed but there's real power to a lot of the imagery especially in the finale where the house becomes an endless maze of moldy hallways and walls within walls.
I absolutely knew this would get a great critic score and a 'meh' audience score. It's a decent dementia story that does a good job of illustrating the horrors or that awful condition. Of course, it's not an outright horror, so if that's your bag, don't bother. It's slow, atmospheric, pretty creepy in places and, overall, a decent watch. And the cast were all excellent.
What in the world did I just watch. It started off solid and then just descended into a series of "wtf?" with no satisfactory conclusion. Pick a different movie to watch on your night off
One of those modern "elevated" horror movies where the first half is more of a slow burn drama (a rather effective one) and the ending is truly horrific and full of symbolism. A main reason I love this movie is because of a part near the end that reminds me of a recurring nightmare I've had.
Relic is a thoughtful and thought provoking horror film that will leave you in tears if you let it get under your skin. To do so you must not only appreciate the jumps and scares, but also the very human side of the story that deals with the terrible inevitable loss that comes with this bittersweet thing we call life.
