Rent Live Reviews
The only thing good about this was Jordan Fisher. Keala's note at the end kinda summed it up - supposed to be impactful, but just a little off
Overlooking the dress rehearsal disaster and the problem broadcastin on Fox, the cast was exceptional and the performance enjoyable.
Having seen several differant versions this version did keep the original intent, musicality and theatrics. No it wasnt "live" and yes it was overly polished in some respects but you have to remember its audience... 8pm Sunday night. No f bombs allowed. If youre a purist... You may not like it... If your not stuck on "its not the original cast" its a wonderful version. Cheers
Unfortunately, I watched this the evening after I had seen "Hamilton." Ugh. Bad idea. Vanessa Hudgens was surprisingly good. Everybody else sucked. I love "Rent" and there is much in the way of truly good music in this show ... but my guess is these actors all had extremely good agents who sold their soul to get their clients these parts ... too many pretty faces and not near enough good voices.
Overlooking the pre-recorded dress rehearsal, RENT suffered from miscasting and weak song performances that failed to resonate with this viewer. While there were some gems (Keala & Valentina), it just wasn't enough to pay the rent. Final thought: it was too clean.
The made for 온라인카지노추천 special certainly attracted attention, but we should have expected FOX to ruin it. The show skipped from one moment to another, edited too much out, and fell far short of the mark in key scenes. I felt like I was watching a rock concert instead of theatre due to the lack of acting and the shrieking audience that drowned everyone out. Despite good singing from some of the cast, they didn't understand the weight of the characters they play and failed to do justice to an epic story. Interviews of the original cast in the 90s mention that they were afraid moving to Broadway would damage the ethos of the show. Rent Live proves them right.
Not a perfect recording (thanks largely to an audience that were a bit noisy at times), and considering weird issues around the production. Still, it manages to be a brilliant performance of a powerful musical, with a fantastic cast.
Iâ(TM)m sorry for gods sake you can not go and change every other line of one of the most iconic, longest running musicals of all time. Like I understand having to reword some of the more adult lines but that shouldnâ(TM)t mean rewriting the scene as a whole. I understand it was a dress rehearsal so I canâ(TM)t even comment on the singing. Also this is a MUSICAL, not a CONCERT. STOP PLAYING TO THE AUDIENCE WHEN SINGING.
The audience wouldnâ(TM)t shut the hell up. Vocals were sub par at best. One of the worst live tv musicals Iâ(TM)ve seen.
This is a television live broadcast performance of the popular stage musical, which was itself based on the opera La Boheme. Although made in the 90's, much of the musical's subjects remain pretty topical. To be honest, this was only partially live for those who watched it the night of. Actor Brennin Hunt hurt his leg during the rehearsal. Luckily, it was filmed before a live audience, so this was a mix of pre-filmed and live performances. Still, if you're watching this by now, it probably doesn't matter. Liked the cast here. Not arguing that they were better or worse than the originals, just saying I liked them all. Not a weak singer in the bunch. Nice to see Jordan Fisher in the lead. He's been a supporting player in a lot of stuff, and considering that he's personable and a good singer, it's nice to see him finally get his due. This doesn't include ambitiously sprawling sets seen in recent 온라인카지노추천 musicals, but this isn't a simple one set. This takes place in a large warehouse-type that has room for large semi-interconnected scenery and a full audience surrounding. We also see them do a couple stunts that were a little neat. The whole thing is pretty impressive. Thismhas a fine selection of songs, though personally I think a lot of them are the type you like but aren't catchy enough that you're singing them later. This is one of those operatic-style affairs that are mostly singing with little spoken dialogue. I appreciate the effort that goes into that amount of song work. Overall, this was a very impressive and moving adaptation.
The worst thing i've ever seen in my entire life. As a huge Renthead, this is grotesque. Maybe the only highlight is Vanessa Hudgens, but isn't worth sitting through just for her.
The live version is very so good but I pefer the original Broadway and the 2005 film is better the cast of the live version did a amazing job and of course a surprise appearances from the cast of the original broadway and the 2005 film like wow yeah I actually liked it
Yes, I do think Rent could've handled the whole "not live" aspect better. Yes, I was confused by some of the lyric changes and omitting of certain parts. Yes, I was a bit annoyed by how the audience screaming sometimes drowned out the vocals. But for what Rent gave, I thought it was actually pretty good. Mimi & Roger shined throughout the musical. Vanessa Hudgens, as always, was fantastic to watch. Collins is a great actor and singer, but I was disappointed that he couldn't round out the low bass notes that Collins is known for. Jordan Fisher is also a great actor and singer, but just doesn't fit the physical description of Mark. (He's too hot to be a loser.) Although Angel had a rocky start with vocals in the beginning, Valentina was able to pick it up again by "I'll Cover You" and hit the very high notes in "Contact". I just wish that Valentina was funnier and more charismatic as Angel. Overall, I believe most of the cast were saving their energy for the day that never came. Regardless, this is still a pretty good show.
One of the best productions of RENT I have ever seen. If this show comes back to Broadway, this is how it needs to be done!!!
What a disappointment. The singing was sub par at best. Much of the vocals were underpitch and not even "rescued" by Settle or Menzel. Skip it and splurge on real live theatre.
Loved it ....my daughter and i sang all the songs right along with them .....and the ending was amazing when the original broadway cast joined to sing Seasons of love
did not like it at all and didn't know how to not give it a no star rating so I gave it half a star. I will stick with the movie version and yes people I know the broadway version came first but I hate it so there.
