Reptile Reviews
The twists and turns definitely come under the heading of "I did NOT see that coming". The movie begins as a rather unremarkable murder mystery, however, by the middle of the movie, you have to stop whatever else you're doing and begin to pay strict attention as your jaw drops. Benecio del Toro's middle-aged, weather-beaten face and his demeanor as a jaded, world-weary Detective who still doggedly pursues answers to his unwanted questions, is brilliant. The shocks can be breath taking. This is one of only a handful of movies that I'll be watching twice.
Decent waste of time. Not terrible but needed to be about 45 minutes shorter. Well acted.
I have watched it twice. All the characters are realistic, the plot is captivating, and Del Toro's character compelling.
The REAL suspense and thrill (only slowly yet steadily) intensifies during the second hour, which gets really creepy and intense, with a final that is like a sledgehammer. Wow. Really impressed by it. The good: Benicio del Toro Benicio del Toro Benicio del Toro. This man has got charisma few other actors (are lucky to) have. He really steals the show, with his very subtle acting skills, that convey so many different feelings that simply watching Benicio del Toro lifting up a small glass to drink is fascinating to watch. Benicio del Toro co-wrote the screenplay and he co-produced this movie as well. So he had a lot of cloud. And it shows, because this is one heck of a Benicio del Toro flick. The director made his feature movie debut, with only having made lots of music videos before and although I dont think his direction was terrific, it certainly was a masterful debut. Quite impressed AND spooked out by it. Recommended for the art house movie fans of slowburning (yet still suspenseful) detective movies.
As I'm a leader and not a follower, I didn't take notice of the bad reviews, on this film, and I'm so glad I didn't!! Fantastic cast, great acting, with a plot of twists and turns! Give it a go, you'll be nicely surprised!.
Reptile tries to captivate as a dark thriller, but only offers an average plot. The story about an investigator who solves a murder case is at times formulaic and not very innovative. Despite a solid performance from Benicio del Toro, the film often remains stuck in familiar patterns. The atmosphere is successful, but the character development and twists are weak and unsurprising. The plot drags on and the finale disappoints with a feeling of ambiguity. A solid but not very gripping thriller experience.
I enjoyed this movie very much I’m surprised that it has a low rating…I guess people don’t like to pay attention unless there’s an explosion every 10 minutes…recommended watch did not disappoint
Compared to some of the dross they serve up on Netflix (Intrusion, Kimi) this is an excellent movie with good acting performances, a beguiling storyline and good pacing.
You absolutely have to pay attention to get it. But it will molest your brain in the best way possible.
I thought the movie was brilliantly portrayed by Benicio Del Toro. His hard but cool demeanor layed groundwork for the rest of the actors trailing shortly behind. Alicia Silverstone kept pace in her role as Benicio's woman....Negative reviews on this one are not conceivable.... Good movie..... I give it a 7.5 out of 10....
I thought this movie was pretty good overall. The acting was great and I wanted to keep watching it so it kept my attention. It was a little slow and maybe a little too long but other than that, it was a good movie.
Quite a confusing movie where you had to put everything together yourself. Was a fun movie which kept you guessing but just not it.
As per most films please do not listen to critic reviews. Movie was amazing. Pacing and some dream sequences could use some work but all in all a great film!
I’m often shocked by what gets greenlit. But, I’ve seen this issue with films backed by streaming services, most notably Amazon. This film is nothing but a series of plot points minus the “roller coaster” that makes a film compelling. They hired some of the best actors currently working to seduce you, but failed to create any riveting twists. Good for falling asleep to.
My advice to anyone looking for a solid, fun, and engaging murder mystery-- ignore the critics on this one. I'm not entirely sure what they want or expect out of a movie like this, but the complaint that it's boring or derivative or predictable (none of which is true) just makes me wonder where we have gone in the world of watching and enjoying movies. It's super fun, and the movie intentionally blurs the line on who can and can not be trusted, so well in fact that people who you think are rock-solid characters with a grip on reality come to feel nefarious as we fall deeper into this weird little rabbit hole. Of course there are cliches and tropes, and maybe the spin on the tropes aren't subverted in the most noticable way, but I feel that they're subverted in ways that matter. The way the subversion ties into the real-world commentary is concrete and keeps you guessing from the beginning-- even when the truth of the mystery is right there before your very eyes. It's just really good filmmaking and storytelling. I sometimes get the feeling that critics, especially these days, think that subversion needs to be some sort of meta-commentary on the state of these types of genre films... but that's dumb and boring and insincere and I'm honestly exhausted with these self-cannibalizing movies that exist only to comment on themselves. All that is to say-- it's a solid movie with a great mystery and fun performances. I don't think the movie sticks the landing super gracefully, but it honestly doesn't need to because all the way through I was on the edge of my seat and fully engaged. Give it a watch!
It's a good thriller and crime movie, I liked the plot and these kinds of movies are quite nice but there were boring scenes too, but other than that, it was a good movie to watch, the acting was good.
Very intense, screen play, background music and Benicio del toro acting is TOP NOTCH. Justin Timberlake is so talented. RECOMMEND !!
A solid and dark thriller served by its great cast, especially Benicio del Toro who delivers a haunting performance.
One of the few movies that keep me interested whole time, really liked the film from beggining to end, not for people that like cheap scripts like the mayority of new films these days.
