Regardless of what you may think of the sport of horse racing, this is an inspirational story, even more so because it is the true tale of Michelle Payne becoming the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. Yet even with knowing its basics, it is still quite emotionally affecting at times, thanks to some great performances from a who's who of Australian film.

You have seen its like before but this one is well done.

Loved it! Great performances by every performer! Heart-squeezing and captivating from beginning to end! The soundtrack was wonderful!

it holds a strong message about sexism and perseverance but i was just bored watching it because horse racing does not interest me.

I mean it feels like a good history lesson and sure it was enjoyful at times plus I did cry in the end which is a bonus for me.

This movie is inspirational and very true to real life events, it will have you wanting more and feeling happy at the end. All round great film!

Ride like a girl is a very inspirational sports film. Movie features great performances all around and I can tell the actors and staff are dedicated to their craft. The movie has a good message and story. But like most inspirational sports films the film is predictable and does it take many chances. It’s a good and well-made film just don’t expect any surprises.

interesting movie, cool story

There have been many movies made about famous Horses and Races (with one of the best also being Australian: "Phar Lap" in '83). With this one, first-time director Rachel Griffiths' brings in an interesting real-life drama, about a determined young girl born into a large horse training family. With a huge love of these noble animals, and a longing to become a champion Jockey (with all its dangers &challenges) it tracks her efforts to overcome many setbacks and near-fatal accidents. It's strikingly photographed by prolific Australian Martin McGrath, with many shots almost putting the viewer on horseback, pounding the turf and into the thick of the dangers professional horse riders face with each challenging ride, including some eye-popping overhead shots. Performances are professional and Stevie Payne, the real-life brother of the stories main character is remarkable. The top music score is provided by prolific composer David Hirschfelder (The Railway Man '13) and ex muso with Little River Band. Even those who don't enjoy Horse Racing can't lose with the remarkable factual-based achievements of this determined young woman (first female to ever win the coveted prize in 2015). And, for any who don't know about the famous Melbourne Cup, just ask any professional Horse Breeder, from anywhere in the wide world. Some say it has clichéd moments but hey, that's just what there is in stories like this – it's how well it's done that makes the difference. They sure did need to flesh out a better title (what were they thinking?)

Ride Like A Girl lives up to its name with the wit of its delightful cast carrying us on an emotionally effective and refreshingly relatable journey that is sure to inspire.

This sports drama was great. Teresa Palmer, Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton, and the rest of the cast did a great job in this movie. This true story was very dramatic and passionate. It's about not giving up on your dreams no matter what circumstances you face along the way. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a great movie for everyone.

An inspiring tale of determination told beautifully through great performances and pleasant scenery. Ride Like a Girl may fall into the tropes of its genre but it still brings out the best of its empowering story and the end result is an awesome display of girl power.

Ride like a Girl is as much a movie of the rise of a champion Michelle Payne as it is the love between her and her family. Especially between her and her father... when tragedy strikes with the loss of a sister he doesn't let Michelle pursue her dream to race and their relationship becomes estranged. When they each suffer life threatening traumas they realize how important they're to each other. I really enjoyed this performance and could not recommend it more.

Beautiful film of a young lady following her dreams and taking pride in becoming one of the amazing female Jokey riders we have in Australia. Loved how beautiful the film portray the life and relationships in Michelle's life. She is one hell of a rider. When she had falls from the rides she "Get's Back on the Horse" and keeps chasing her goal to 'Win the Melbourne Cup'. So much passion and fight for her place in the industry of jockeys.

Ride Like a Girl is I guess a bit of amiable entertainment, but in the end it delivers a fairly ordinary film experience. The true story of the Payne family and in particular jockey Michelle Payne is worthy of a film treatment. But like a lot of sports movies they distort the reality of sport and dig down into cliche instead. The Payne family moved to Ballarat after the mother of the family was killed. One man raising 10 children, most of them becoming jockeys, is truly a unqiue tale. The youngest in Michelle would achieve the greatest success winning the 2015 Melbourne Cup, becoming the first female in history to do so. Of course along the way she has overcome chronic misogyny in the industry. Sadly the scenes of this are so badly handled its quite offputting. And facts of the story are distorted when it wasn't needed. There are some nice scenes in this film but it really feels like an opportunity lost.

Great move based on a true story. Never bored and a happy ending.

Loved it, need more films like this.
