Righteous Kill Reviews
With two legends leading this billing you would expect at least an average movie but that just isn't the case. This movie should be much better than it is.
I think we were all expecting a better film from this duo. A fairly mediocre film.
I actually liked this movie and am waiting to watch it again. However, I've been waiting an awfully long time. Frankly the reviews are overly critical or they themselves have seen to many cop stories. That said, I remember being in awe when the truth comes out and I also worry if the good guy ever gets out of the jam he's ultimately in. Of course I went into the movie fresh, and not really looking for a twist until apparently I missed all the clues.. But honestly I got all the ups and downs and the surprises and horror the Director hopes to invoke in the viewer. So frankly, I need to see this again to understand why it was given so many "worse than mediocre" reviews. And I remember liking the banter the two have early on in the film.. hmm. Was I that bored or were you guys expecting too much??
There's the making of a better movie here but this felt rushed and spotty, like it was trying to be too fresh and creative with the ‘bad cop, badder cop' routine but things become a bit more justified and make a bit more sense by the time the credits roll.
From The Godfather, to Heat... to THIS THING?! C'mon Pacino! C'Mon De Niro! Lack of money, maybe?
I get why the reviews were pretty bad..the obligatory gorgeous lady cop! But I love those two guys and would pay to watch them eat soup!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have Pacino and Deniro do a B Movie or straight to video release? This is it. It's ok. Not very rewatchable. Grade: 72/100 C-
A let down.. did anyone read the script, just because you have a great cast doesn't mean you have a great film. A crime drama were who you think is doing the murders, is! was that meant to be a twist.
I was surprised how much I liked It after the poor reviews, seems like mass band wagon jumping. The story intriguing, the Direction very good, the acting excellent as you would expect, & the dialogue slick & cynical. The only disappointment was the ending, a bit too sudden & rushed. Ignore the critique & enjoy.
Just better rewatch Heat
This movie is certainly underrated, and for a reason I don't quite understand. The script and dialogue are pretty good, the direction is top-notch, and the movie stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro who though not their best still give their typically compelling performances, with a guest appearance from 50 Cent. There is also a decent amount of wit. Righteous Kill is enjoyable throughout the sitting and does not seem hollow, nor does it carry a vapid plot. It is definitely worth the watch.
A formulaic and by the numbers "cops trying to find a serial killer" movie starring two legends of the game. DeNiro and Pacino have been in better movies and they have been better IN other movies. While not very good, there were far worse movies released in 2008 and there were also far better ones as well.
It might have very clumsy dialogue and a silly script, but watching Al Pacino and Robert De Niro together and a nice final twist is kind of worth it.
Police psychologists review recordings of a man (Robert De Niro), who states his name as Detective David Fisk, the "Poetry Boy" killer. The Poetry Boy earned the moniker for his modus operandi of murdering criminals and leaving short poems with their bodies. Fisk reveals that he looks up to his partner of almost 30 years, Detective Tom Cowan (Al Pacino), and considers him to be his role model of how a cop should be. Pacino's character is known by the nickname "Rooster" and De Niro's by "Turk", and they are referred as such outside of the recordings. These recordings provide a narrative, and the film opens with the tenth victim, a drug dealer named Robert "Rambo" Brady (Rob Dyrdek). Turk and Rooster investigate the murder with the less-experienced detectives Karen Corelli (Carla Gugino), Simon Perez (John Leguizamo), and Ted Riley (Donnie Wahlberg). When they find a poem on the body, the cops link it to Poetry Boy. As Poetry Boy murders acquitted rapist Jonathan Van Luytens and Father Connell, a Catholic priest and child molester (whose victims included Poetry Boy himself), tensions escalate between Turk, Corelli, and Perez. Turk is now living with Corelli, who happens to be Perez's ex-girlfriend. Poetry Boy assaults an intended fourteenth victim, Russian mobster Yevgeny Magulat (who survives), and goes on to shoot at Perez's house and rape Corelli. Perez and Riley suspect Turk of being Poetry Boy due to his marksmanship skills and psych evaluations, so they arrange a secretly supervised meeting between Turk and suspected drug dealer Marcus "Spider" Smith (50 Cent), during which Turk supposedly must kill him... The Times included "Righteous Kill" on its 100 Worst Films of 2008 list. James Berardinelli of ReelViews gave the film two stars (out of four), saying: "This isn't just generic material; it's generic material with a dumb ending, and the director is a journeyman, not a craftsman. ... Its failure to live up to even modest expectations is a blow. There's nothing righteous to be found here." Ken Fox of 온라인카지노추천 Guide also gave Righteous Kill a score of two stars out of four, saying: "The entire movie is one big build-up to a twist that, while not exactly cheating, plays an awfully cheap trick. To get there, writer Russel Gewirtz and director John Avnet sacrifice mystery, suspense, sensible editing and everything else one expects to find in a police thriller just to keep the audience off-guard. It's not worth it, and the first real pairing of De Niro and Pacino is utterly wasted." Claudia Puig of USA Today gave the film one and a half stars out of four, saying: "By the time the movie reaches its protracted conclusion, it feels like a slog. Pacino has a few funny lines, as does Leguizamo, but not nearly enough to save the film from collapsing under the weight of its own self-righteous tedium." Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave Righteous Kill one star out of four, saying: "Some people think Robert De Niro and Al Pacino would be a kick to watch just reading a phone book. Well, bring on that phone book. Righteous Kill, a.k.a. The Al and Bob Show, is a cop flick with all the drama of Law & Order: AARP." However, Richard Roeper gave the film 3 stars out of 4 and Tim Evans for Sky Movies remarked that the film was "... an effective whodunnit but—more importantly—it poses refined, complex questions about how the law operates in a so-called civilised society." "Righteous Kill" has wobbly editing, a wobbly scenestructure and a silly storyline with a twist that´s hardly surprising in the end. And we get no sparks between De Niro and Pacino. Something you´d expect. They are both on autopilot here. This is simply not "Heat". Trivia: Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have said in interviews that they did not feel proud of the final result of Righteous Kill. They even stated feeling unworthy of their fans' appreciation during the premiere, with Pacino going as far as saying that it is a movie they are both trying to forget. Therefore, both actors agreed that the next project they collaborated in together would be one to be proud of. 11 years later, they were finally very proud and pleased with their next collaboration: Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" (2019).
Really expected a lot more from these two came up super short
Dialogue is so vague, it is difficult to determine who is telling the truth versus playing along. Even with great cast, it was not smooth story
Did Al and Robert even read this script? Did this have a script? This movie is so insulting to the audience's intelligence that it borders on satire. At least the dialogue is so immediately awful that you know what you're in for right away. Here's what you get when execs make a movie, Hollywood.
It's star make it watchable but it does nothing new and it's twist is really predictable.
Not bad just didn’t keep my attention
