Rio Reviews

This is a children’s film through and through, with lots of pretty colors and butt jokes to entertain the 4-to-8-year-old range.

Rio doesn't rest its dynamic dancing impulse. [Full review in Spanish]

With Blu and Jewel chained together (like the hero and heroine of The 39 Steps), there are thrills, spills and gags galore.

This is one film that you won't necessarily regret paying the extra bucks for the extra bursts of color and animation.

| Original Score: 3.0/4.0 | Sep 21, 2020

I found it quite charming.

I've never heard an adult say, "I must go see that film. It has Jesse Eisenberg's voice in it." They could have spent the money on something else, like a better story.

This isn't revolutionary animation, but it's warm, sincere and huge-hearted. I was dazzled by all the colors; your kids are gonna go nuts for them.

While it may entertain the kiddies for a while, for the older folks out there (and that means anyone 10+), Rio is just another animated yawner.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Apr 21, 2013

This is simply a film that both kids and parents can enjoy together, which, according to the consensuses for other recent kids' films, hasn't happened for awhile, so my advice would be to take advantage of it

| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 20, 2012

Basic, good-natured cinematic charm isn't something that should be easily dismissed.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 7, 2012

Bright and chippy as a roomful of parrots, and the best thing Saldanha has done since the first Ice Age.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Dec 29, 2011

You'd be the world's biggest grinch not to get a kick out of this feather fest.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Dec 18, 2011

There is nothing wrong with this film - the voice cast are all good, the animation is colorful and the script peppered with one-liners. But it all seems so formulaic.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 13, 2011

Rio combines excellent visuals and a witty, modern script that will appeal to audience members both young and old.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 1, 2011

There's lots of color, some gorgeous animation, a running beat of lively (if not always memorable) music and the energy of lovely tropical birds in flight. The rest is formula...

| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 15, 2011

This might be the first family film in which sex... serves as the narrative lynchpin.

| Original Score: B | Jun 26, 2011

Even if the story lacks the depth or originality of some of the recent crop of superlative animated films, 'Rio' has an innocent charm to it -- and an explosion of color.

| Original Score: B | May 31, 2011

The posters say From the creators of Ice Age, so don't say you haven't been warned.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 27, 2011

Since the little ones will be amused, the high-flying Rio won't ruffle any feathers.
