Robin Hood Reviews
Well made and sticks to the source material. I’m tired of Hollywood taking well crafted stories from our past and making them campy and contemporary while playing hip hop. There is something to be preserved from stories that speak against tyranny and fighting for liberty and the love between men and women that perpetuate a healthy society.
Ridley Scott did good here, I'd say. Tremendous cast that is very able in character, great cinematography and very well written. Enjoyed it a lot, tells the tale the way I like to interpret it. Great movie
This film and Gladiator are on Par and 2 of my all time faves! It has the authenticity of medieval times right with drama, romance and suspense, I love it!
I have seen this movie several times and each time I enjoy it even more. I don't know what the hate is about. It has a excellence cast. It is well worth the watch.
Very disappointed, Russell Crowe is a fine actor, Gladiator is in my top ten movies, but his accent in this film changes from Irish to Scouse to Brummie. It must have cost a lot of money to make and Ridley Scott has a very good back catalogue but this DVD will be going to a charity shop tomorrow with a parental guidance sticker, as in do not watch.
It's a gritty, dramatic take on Robin Hood, one that Ridley Scott got a lot of slack for. But Blanchett and Crowe made it more than decent.
A prequel masquerading as the real thing. It recontextualises the myth of Robin Hood into the early Anglo-French Wars, thereby demoting his iconic nemesis, the Sheriff of Nottingham, to a mere bit player. It also sorely lacks the joy and whimsy that make the legend so tellable. The end result is a lasting genericism, an unfinished origin story that dies without the sequel it so desperately needed but never got.
I thought it was a really well done movie..Ridley is a great director..I really hope they make a 2nd movie continuing off of this story….
The most awesome Robin Hood movie adaptation ever. Ridley Scott and Brian Helgeland bring you the most entertaining Robin Hood adventure with familiar actors and a wonderful time at the movies. Russell Crowe was the perfect choice for the main character!
Movie on the whole is worth watching, but unfortunately there is no translation of what is said in french, could be set as subtitles.
Not as interesting as it could've been but still rousing and epic, Ridley Scott's Robin Hood is another historical epic that takes a known legend and tries to turn it on its head. Some beats are cliche and uninspired, but the film is saved by committed performances, outstanding cinematography, a gripping musical score and great production design.
A thoughtful union of myth—sword in the stone, magna carta, Lion-Heart—filled with small realistic touches, such as the hurdy-gurdy.
Russell Crowe plays the part well, clothing and atmosphere fit the timeline of when the story is from. It's a slow burn as opposed to fast non-stop action, but that's exactly why it works the way it does.
It's an alright movie, not the greatest Robin hood ever made, but certainly not the worst either.
78/100 - good movie, worth watching. kind of a cliche ending but a good balance of comedy, action, and drama. wish there was a sequel.
It is a different telling of the legendary story of Robin Hood. Historical accuracy aside, the cast is great, costumes, visuals, sound, and so much more is simply amazing. All in all I really enjoyed this movie.
Strange and - I agree - joyless. Part of the problem is the total lack of chemistry with Marion.
Interesting telling of the legend. Strong cast. Great musical score.
So it's basically a prequel to the legend of Robin Hood done in Gladiator style which I guess on paper sounds interesting. And the best thing about it is probably the boring forgettable music. Everything else is subpar and completely misses the spirit of the source material. So much so I don't know why this was made. It's basocally trying to be gritty, real, and a deconstruction of what Robin Hood REALLY is and yet somehow completely misses the point. There is no life, charm, or fun in this at all. Crowe is miscast as Robin Hood even MORE SO than Costner and Cate is slightly worse than the bland Marrion in that one also. They almost never show emotion, especially Blanchett who has no emotion most of the time and no chemistry at all with Crowe. He has no charisma at all, just grittiness and rawness but that isn't Robin Hood. Everyone else is boring and forgettable. The villian isn't good and is more like a whiny brat than anything. The lighting is lifeless as well and the color saturation somehow doesn't help either. This also is VERY convuluted and has tons of pointless side plots with side characters and shows an adventure but somehow doesn't have any character development. Imagien Spartacus (1960) without any character and tons of side character interactions. It feels like a slog watching this because of how lifeless, meandering, and how much it misses the spirit of the source material. Skip This.
It lacks the exceptional performances and music of Gladiator and doesn't know how to implement humor. Russell Crowe's performance seems melancholy and lacking in a consistent character to enjoy.
