Rocketman Reviews
Love Taron Egerton and his singing voice
They should've promoted this as a musical. I wasn't ready for the characters to spontaneously break out into song.
Absolutely LOVED it!! Hard to pin point specifically because the music (of course), the acting, the story, the wardrobe (of course)- just an overall fantastic film!
I like movies about real people or based on true stories. The movie was good my dislikes was expecting to hear full songs, where some were just pieces. I thought there were a few slow parts, that could have been played out better. Overall I did like the movie!
loved it. great job portraying Elton!
Fantastic! If you’re a fan of Elton John, it’s a must see!
Second time we've seen it. Enjoyed it as much as the first. Can't wait for it to come out in DVD
ROCKETMAN REVIEW: Man did I enjoy this flick. 😃 Right off the bat, comparisons to Bohemian Rhapsody will be made here. While I can see people enjoying a film like Bohemian Rhapsody more, I had a MUCH better time watching this instead! 👍👍 : Rocketman, compared to Bohemian Rhapsody, feels like a more grounded version of the artists story! While there are a lot of highs to Elton John’s life, there are parts here where you see Elton overdosing on drugs, contemplating suicide, being bullied by his family, etc. This all makes for TERRIFIC drama, and Elton John fans will surely be impressed. 😍 😍 What also works well is the MUSICAL songs too. There are actual fully choreographed musical numbers here to the tune of Elton John songs, and it REALLY works! They’re catchy, well sung, well directed, and fit into the drama! The films worth seeing just cause of the musical numbers alone. Taron Egerton is also frankly AWESOME as Elton John. He is SO GOOD in this, with Oscar-worthy acting in nearly every scene! With that said, I enjoyed Rocketman WAY more than Bohemian Rhapsody! The drama works unbelievably well, and though not all of it is “fun”, (a lot of this IS depressing) it won’t go breaking your heart either.
A beautiful blend of the life and music of Elton John. Acting was superb especially Taron Eferton and Jamie Bell. Well done!
If you like musicals.
This movie should be seen by everyone!!
A good chronicle of Elton John's life. Well played and sung by all actors. The music was wonderful. If you've listened to & loved all his songs for the last 50 years, it is a must see.
Not your typical format. It was strange in the fact it jumped back and forth between his childhood and adult hood and then they thru in his music into dance scenes. Really hard to explain how they did this movie. I will say you cant leave the theatre or you wont be able to follow anything that is happening. Die-hard Elton fans will enjoy it for the music. It goes heavy into drugs alcohol and his love for men. A bit too much focus.
It was very entertaining, albeit a tragic story of an incredibly talented musician. At least he hasn't ended up like Freddie Mercury of Queen.
Great biopic which touches on Elton’s life up into the late eighties. It’s a musical mixed into the story so be prepared for some great music. Would have liked it to have been a bit more thorough but that would have at least required another 30 minutes if not more.
Music was phenomenal
A LITTLE MORE OF A MUSICAL, THAN EXPECTED.
Elton John has an inspiring story to tell. However, unlike Bohemian Rhapsody which told the story dramatically with the music just a part of the story, the screenwriter chose to use Elton's music to tell much of the story much like a Broadway musical. In fact one set piece is actually a riff on Bollywood. I actually was left wondering if the screenplay had been converted from a planned musical or just written so it could be easily converted to a musical later like many Hollywood movies these days (i.e. Lion King, Legally Blonde, etc.) This meant musical pieces were used out of chronology which was a bit jarring. In any event the final scenes were quiet touching but overall it was less than satisfying. Especially since it essentially ends at the point in his life 26 years ago when he achieved sobriety other than a little coda before the credits. I'd have been fine watching this later on cable rather than in the theatre.
Loved it! Great movie for the Elton John fans.
At the beginning of the film I panicked a little as I had my husband with me and feared that it was going in the direction of a musical. What transpired was an amazing journey thru the life of Elton via exemplary acting and beautifully profound music. We also had just been to his last concert and were reminded of his genius
