Rogue Agent Reviews
I found it hard to believe the shear stupidity of the characters in this movie. While i get this was based on true events, gullibility doesn't really cover it. I get that some people can sound convincing, but when a lawyer is presented with information that is easily proven or denied, then WTF... his name was an alias that couldn't be corroboated...he's an agent but when his name is searched there is no backstop to avert prying eyes...really...c'mon.
I’d have loved to watch this on a 3 episode series to get more details. I like James N for that I enjoyed the based on real life story. I didn’t like the acting of the main female character. Could have been better but overall was good and story keep me interested.
Utter dross. Totally implausible from the get-go. Described as 'Inspired by a true story', the red thread that links the reality of the Freegard story to this pitiful effort is stretched beyond breaking point. A slow start, and a storyline that doesn't stand up to even a modicum of scrutiny. Thin gruel indeed. Steer clear.
It feels like there aren't any stakes, even if what's happening here is weird and sad
Interesting story. Good acting. Intriguing and enjoyable.
An engaging movie that is a biopic of one of the most despicable con artist you will know about. Definitely worth watching, but its very slow to get into and the rewatch ability is not up to par compared to other films.
3.5 stars; The performances by Robert Norton and Gemma Arterton were sterling. They took a Hallmark Mystery story (actually a real life story) and raised it to a first-class Brit Crime Drama.. Something the Brits do with regularity.. Norton was so good in his role that I was 'conned' for the first half of the movie. And, Ms. Arterton was so compelling that we were hanging on with her to the very end for her revenge.
I have watched the documentary miniseries about Freegard before so I expected not to enjoy this so much, however it told a very different part of the story and was actually a good movie.
Norton is good as a true to life psychopath that poses as an undercover agent in order to fully ruin people's lives and take their money. But, you don't hate him as much as you should, and the tension built to finding him and trying him is lacking.
Rogue Agent builds a clear picture of a psychopathic manipulator and exposes him as the most feeble person in the story, it's masterful acting no doubt but the story was well written enabling this. Great story step by step revealing the horrific nature of Freegard's seemingly harmless tricks. A drama on ill-fate getting mixed up with charm and attraction. Excellent acting by the cast maintaining the puzzling natures of the story by doing just the right amount with each character. Great visuals and backgrounds. Rogue Agent is a thriller with a unique theme it's a slap across all con artists who gives ultimatums to their preys.
Fantastic thriller based on a true story. Very good acting by all.
‘Rogue Agent' shows that the extraordinary true story upon which its based would be more suited to a true-crime documentary where details could be explored more thoroughly. As it's presented here, it comes across as a mish-mash of a romance and thriller, glossing over facts and failing to explore the depths of the more horrible parts, lessening their impact. Nevertheless, it does have its moments, but what kept me watching was the great central performances from Arterton and Norton, in particular, who does an impressive job of effectively portraying his two-faced character.
The less you know going into this film, the better. ROGUE AGENT skillfully upends the genre expectations of its title to become a quite different tale. The actual events on which it's based are apparently quite a bit more twisty than those the film portrays, which is saying something, and the film manages to distill the tale into a dark and compelling slow burn thriller.
Decently crafted and convincing in parts, James Norton and Gemma Arterton impress in the lead roles. As manipulator, sociopath and inveterate liar Norton irritates, repels and makes your skin crawl. One feels Arterton's Alice character would be far too intelligent to fall for Rob's oleaginous charms and there lies the rub. The film moves along at a good pace revealing the ruined lives of all those who come into contact with the fake agent. The film ends in an annoyingly contrived fashion , so loses a star for that! You have to remind yourself the film is based on real events, now that's incredible.
A decently done true criminal endeavors of a compulsive liar!
Great escapism movie. Fm start to end. To give it 5 stars it would have needed a much much more finessed ending
Through word of mouth I heard about this movie and I was hooked from start to finish. A very clever film in my opinion. Great actors with lots of different twists etc and emotion too. Highly recommend.
Rogue Agent is one of the best movies of the year. Again, what makes it good is that the story is real. All those things really happened. But how they visualized it is just perfect. Mostly don't like slow-burn movies but this is something. Must-watch.
If the DC had been a good detective from the start instead of being useless the prat would have been caught a lot sooner. It was a good portrayal of a true story.
