Romancing the Stone Reviews

Proof that escapism feel-good film can also have depth and character. Douglas is in fine form as he meets quiet author Turner for some real life adventure.

The movie that asks "what if Indy was a bit more of a jerk?"

Might be old but its aged fantastically, a truly fun film with a great story.

A Adventure comedy Classic. It's not a perfect film and if your not into 80's asetics you could have trouble getting into this as it's VERY cheesy at times. However, it feels like it has a degree of self awareness to it and the humor is pretty good actually too. The soundtrack is really good and gloriously dated 80's sound. The acting is solid but probably the weakest part. Turner can be abit hit or miss at times alone but Douglas makes her better. He's really good and the best thing in this and has a ton of charisma. It does a great job blending a fun treasure hunt with humor and romance that's very charming throughout with solid direction. Everything else is really good. On paper this shouldn't work that well. The plot is so farfetched, is a bit clunky at first setting things up especially because Turner just doesn't have the charisma of Douglas, and has tons of 80's cheese but it's always having fun. It's too busy having fun, making you laugh, and charming you with a fun adventure to really stumble. Anyone who is a fan of adventures, comedies, the director, or any actors in this should check this out.

A perfect blend of slapstick comedy, action-packed adventure and fantastical romance

One of the best Rom-coms ever. Great acting. Over the top plot. Very romantic for a date night. A movie to fall in love with. My girlfriend (now wife) cried and laughed. A romantic novel come to life.

From a time when Zemeckis stuck to ageless practical effects, "Romancing the Stone" is still a wonderful movie 40 years later.

One of the better action/adventure films of the 1980's, with an authenticity to it that you just don't see anymore... partly because strictly adventure movies just don't exist anymore. I've seen it attempted and adventure films with the opposite sex co-leads and every time it's just not quite on the same level as this.

OK let me tell you something about the movie that I like, Michael Douglas is one of my favorite actors. I even watched one of his movies. Kathleen Turner plays a romance novelist who wants to find her sister. Danny DeVito plays a really crooked smuggler. Michael Douglas's character Jack Colton looks just exactly like that guy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. That's unspoken for. Jack and Joan have great chemistry together. The scene is unexpected where Jack has the green emerald in his crotch and he dances to let the emerald scroll down his leg and kicks it in the air to let the bad guy catch it and the crocodile bites his hand off, now that's freaking grim. This is a very underrated film. Just brilliant! Danny DeVito plays Ralph and that guy who plays his mate Ira kidnapped Joan's sister so they can get the stone and the map and if Ralph and Ira can have the map and gem Joan and her sister can go. But they're not the bad guys, they're just crooks. The only villain in this movie is Zolo, he's the one who wants the stone. Remember when I said he got his hand bitten off by a crocodile? Yeah, and like I said ''It's freaking grim.'' I actually took me a while to watch this movie for some reason I have to watch this and the sequel to Romancing the Stone. The story, I know it all the way through. It's fantastic. The characters are well developed. It's just fxxking awesome.

It's one of the best action movies I've ever seen. Robert Zemeckis treats us to some beautiful scenery with his touch and to gripping scenes. Sure, some of it may seem unrealistic, but Romancing the Stone never ceases to amaze or entertain. I loved watching every part of it.

Indiana Jones with a confusing plot and more soldiers than tribes. 5/10 - Bad.

"Romancing the Stone" is an enjoyable 80s adventure-comedy film that has a certain charm to it. The film stars Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner as two unlikely companions on a journey through the Colombian jungle to find a valuable gemstone. The chemistry between the lead actors is strong, and the film does a good job of balancing humor and action. The movie also boasts stunning landscapes and thrilling set pieces that add to the overall experience. While "Romancing the Stone" may not be a groundbreaking film, it is a fun, lighthearted adventure that is perfect for a nostalgic trip down memory lane or for those looking for a simple, entertaining movie.

A firm favourite from the 1980s and having recently rewatched the film, it has traversed the decades exceptionally well. One of the few films I can watch time and again.

Romancing the Stone certainly delivers as an action-adventure film with great chemistry between Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas.

I watched Romancing the Stone many times as a kid. Back then, I thought it was a fun and unique adventure movie that was full of suspense and humor. Watching it again as an adult, I am happy to report that I still feel that way. Kathleen Turner plays the part of the lonely romance writer Joan Wilder perfectly, and Michael Douglas is surprisingly capable as the lovable rogue Jack Colton. The plot serves up realistic stakes, the setting feels authentic, and the action sequences are exciting. There were a lot of great movies that came out in 1984, and Romancing the Stone is definitely one of them.

It's not like Indiana Jones/BTTF level, but fun to watch. 80s adventure.

A fun movie that sweeps its audience on a wild adventure of comedy and romance. Romancing the Stone takes us back to a time when blockbusters were actually good and entertaining, unlike the vapid cash grabs released today. Michael Douglas is ever the charmer with his Indiana Jones vibe, and Danny DeVito is hilarious. I only wish it wasn't so predictable.

A film taken aback. Romancing the Stone is the performance of a lifetime by Michael Douglas and his charming sense of humor that make you love him and hate him no matter what.
