Rushmore Reviews

Apr 25, 2025

I'm a huge fan of Wes Anderson but I found this movie boring and self-impressed. It tries way too hard and the main character is inherently unlikeable.

The trees bear a multitude of fruit in this, what would be a typical film faux pas. Wes Andseron's blunt dialogue and extensive individuality in character make for a film that is unorganized perfectly. Max's evolution over the film cannot be plotted but subliminally, the audience is catered through the wants, desires, and consequences of adolescence and ignorance. Also, a forbidden love that tenses and relaxes through a paralleling theme of friendship, vindication, and remorse. 5/5 MUST SEE

An interesting film to analyze Wes evolution as a filmaker, especially refering to his visual style. Wes doesnt use a filter to reduce his palette to essentialy 3 colors (as I believe he does now), but he makes a normal film, and adds color with colorful outfits, decorates... You can also appreciate his usual camera work, such as travellings. The premise is great, but the execution is in my opinion weak. Because, the film fastly get ride of it, and starts talking about other things im not as much interested. The main 2 characters, the teacher and our protagonist, and their relationship, is facinating, but the film is not really about that in the end.

It would be good if it wasn't for the slight pedophilic angle and the constant presentation of the women as objects for the men.

I think that Rushmore is definitely Wes Anderson's best. Rushmore was the first R rated movie I had ever watched alone and it is a perfect movie, especially for a teenager. This film really resonated with me when I first saw it as a teenager and it has stuck with me. This is definitely Robert Yeoman's (the cinematographer) best work, it perfectly fills the 2.35:1 aspect and makes every shot have a purpose. Jason Schwartzman delivers one of my favorite performances of all time, even though it was his first role. Rushmore stands out in Anderson's filmography because it has a sort of emotional honesty that most films don't, the characters are flawed, they all do bad things to each other but they grow, they remain ashamed of what they've done but they grow. I would like to think that Anderson was a variation on Max Fischer at some point because this movie has a sense of emotion that can only be found from personal experience.

Sick and twisted. A teacher involved with a student? No wonder we have so many of these illegal relationships. And a dirty old man to complete the triangle. Unfunny.

Wes’s best. His dry humor dialogue worked so great in a not so make believe setting.

Really incredible soundtrack, the subject matter and themes are maybe a little dark for the setting and tone, but I enjoyed it.

This movie is epic. It's so clever and engaging, and I'm positively in love with the quirky characters, as well as the offbeat direction. I have one friend who can't stand Wes Anderson's films, and honestly, I don't know how we're still friends. I am enthralled by all of Anderson's films for one reason or another.

All Time Classic. It's got super witty dialouge, quirky off beat humor simliar to a Coen Brothers plot half the time with very quirky characters to match the best Tim Burton has to offer without the horror elements. This is a weird and charming comedy about a coming of age story mixed with rom-com elements. The cinematography is very distinct almost like it is shot like your wattching a play...a very quirky one. Everyone should give this a try once.

A gem of a Wes Anderson film that does something that I completely did not expect for him to simply based upon his sensibilities - create a sociopathic main character in Max Fischer (and yet still manage to make him likeable).

This movie is my Rushmore, Max

A cult classic and one of 1998's best movies. An oddball comedy filled unique characters that gels together perfectly due to it's witty and original script and perfect casting. Menacing at times, but also touching in moments, this was the movie that marked Wes Anderson as a special talent in Hollywood. Must see.

Not that great... Maybe because it's an older movie. As 2023 reviewer, it was something that just passed the time, and a little cringey.

Still the best Wes Anderson to date! And Billy Murray's greatest role in the WACU.

A film that transcribes the way Wes Anderson assembles his stories, always leaving an air of hypothetical situations reworked in a stunning way. His films rewrite stories that at some point in W.A's life he had a glimpse, that's fantastic

Um filme engraçado, que ao mesmo tempo consegue ser sensível.
