Salem's Lot Reviews

Apr 21, 2025

Just a basic, run-of-the-mill, paint-by-the-numbers vampire (more like zombie) movie without any character development or emotional heart. I mean, if you're just up for elemental man vs. vampires then I'm sure you wouldn't mind watching it.

The first 15 mins or so of the movie start out great and it gives off the spooky vibe of the original, but it goes downhill fast after that.

This movie is hillariously bad. At the first a couple of ten minutes, it seemed indeed has some potential, but then it got really awful. The characters seemed like a bunch of typical idiot townies in cheap horror films who got murdered because of their own idiocy. Really shame

The movie is really bad, but it's still really fun to watch. I stopped taking it seriously after the first fifteen minutes but I found myself laughing at how bad it was. Don't watch it for a good horror movie; watch it so you can laugh at how bad it is.

Salems lot was a good movie for the vampire universe. I like the plot of the story and the great acting even by the younger actors. The movie also has a fantastic cast. I wouldn’t necessarily say the movie was scary from my perspective . I would recommend this movie.

It wasn't like the salem's lot based I remember. It was more like a bad comedy based movie. Maybe that's what they wanted for this movie, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Still over all it was something to watch.

I really enjoyed this remake . I belive it was spot with great story ,action and the horror aspects of the film .

It has some great moments, but with better musical scoring, a stronger cast, and a two-part structure or a series adaptation, it would work much more effectively.

Vampire the childhood nightmare from VHS rises up again to remind you of the years passed by. Movie sets a firm grip by starting off with timid targets smilar to King's fabled clown. Stephen's writing on cultural shocks is amazing. How tragedies hit quite neighborhood how that trauma transform the community is portrayed very well. Great work by the cast and veterans adds an essential seasoning for the story. Despite the tech improvement the special effects were classical and so were the scares. Great audio effects to reverberate munching and slurping while country music takes us back. There's not a lot that's new but Salem's lot is worth checking out.

Its a pretty shoddy story to begin with tbh, but this remake makes a really good stab at making it as schlocky and fun as it should be. No great shakes here, but certainly worth a look if you live the genre.

80er" Jahre Vampirfilm. Endlich "echte" Vampire. Sehenswert. Echt gelungen.

Looks nice but that’s about it. Had they been given time to do this in 2 feature films I think would have changed it drastically.

I have to say, I enjoyed the film. It’s worth a watch if you enjoy the genre of vampire movies.

This was horrific to watch and not in a good way. Having read the book, all I can ask is why the f#%k did they change the whole second part of the story? The story is famous and renowned for a reason. The relationships aren’t built or established in anyway that they should be, Matts death is glossed over, Susan’s was meant to be a devastating shock. This adaption was complete trash. Nothing scary or smart about it. Just a complete waste of the £3.50 Amazon took from me. And If this review doesn’t tell you enough, then please believe that the acting is just as bad as the crap I spent two hours watching. Don’t watch this. Stick to the book if you want a proper representation

Unlike the rest of the audience’s opinions, I would dive into this movie with your expectations dialed down. I never say a movie is bad. There’s a lot that goes into making cinematic movies, it isn’t easy. Ignore the fact that this is based on a fifty year old Stephen King novel. It will help the film in the long run. I was excited for a good vampire thriller, no comedic undertone. Just a fantastic new vampire horror movie. This movie delivers this, on many different levels. I’ve seen many people complain about the main characters realizing that the problem is a vampire. But I feel like this is what really makes the movie standout! I enjoyed the characters actually having common sense. People act like the characters weren’t spectacle, like they just immediately jump to the conclusion. But when you really take a step back, and look over the plot. You’ll realize that it all ties together, in a neat bow. Was I disappointed that it wasn’t a team of kids, taking down a big bad? Yes, but this doesn’t try to be any other flick. It’s an original classic. That shouldn’t be roasted over a fire. My complaints? Zero character development. A rushed plot! Like, extremely rushed! But once again, these aren’t bad things. Would this have been ten times better if it was a mini-series? Yes! But it wasn’t. So be appreciative, of what you got. This is a fantastic movie! It’s thought-provoking about loyalty, faith and of course realistic expectations! I hated the ending. But despite that, I’m still quite happy with the ending. It’s grounded. It’s a scenario that would play out in real life. People don’t just survive these things. And these guys are not afraid of letting people go. With all of that being said, I for one am a new fan of this series. And cannot wait for the part 2! Hang in there, ladies and gents! They’re sure to fix these problems with the next movie. After-all, these are two directors who actually LISTEN!

No Bite: This adaptation of "Salem's Lot" is a missed opportunity that fails to capture the essence of Stephen King's classic horror novel. The film feels rushed and disjointed, as if key scenes and transitions were hastily cut to fit the feature-length runtime. This results in a choppy narrative that leaves viewers struggling to piece together the story. With a longer runtime, the film might have been able to tell the story in the comprehensive way it clearly aspired to. Sadly, I Really wanted to love this film however, the horror elements, which should be the film's strongest suit, fall flat. The vampires, while visually striking, lack the menacing presence needed to instill fear. The film's attempts at suspense are undermined by predictable plot twists and a lack of genuine tension.

A passably standard old-school vampire movie with just the right amount of camp.

Once for all: Salem´s Lot cannot be adapted into a single movie. It has to be a series with at least two seasons.

The new adaptation of "Salem's Lot" is a horror film that takes a surprising turn, and not in a good way. I went into it expecting a faithful reboot of the original classic, which has left an indelible mark on the genre and instilled fear in audiences for years. Instead, this version veers off into a completely different territory. While it retains the core idea of being set in Salem's Lot, the film introduces a twist where the dead come back not just as zombies but as vampires. You’re bitten, you die, and then you rise again as a vampire. Unfortunately, this interpretation feels like a significant misstep, stripping away the historical essence of the original and turning it into something more akin to a farce. The infamous scene featuring a floating vampire outside a child’s window is particularly disappointing, marred by subpar CGI and lackluster acting. The overall plot and storyline are just as weak, leaving much to be desired. It’s baffling to see an acclaimed actress like Viola Davis associated with this film; it raises questions about her decision-making. Did she even read the script? It’s hard to believe she would willingly lend her talent to such a poorly executed project. In short, this film is a complete disaster. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I certainly wouldn’t watch it again—even if offered a substantial sum of money. It would take a significant incentive to sit through nearly two hours of this trainwreck. Save your time and seek out something that does justice to the horror genre instead.

After literally just a few minutes, you can tell this is directed by someone who has directed lots of horror movies that are popular right now. It has the same dark feel, with odd angles and weird dialogue. Although I like the horror of now, the Nun, Conjuring etc, I am sad that Salems Lot has had this tint to it. The adaptation I watched ( after reading the book ) with David Soul and James Mason will always be the one to beat! I wish this 2024 version had the heart that version had. Sadly, I just didn't overly care about these characters, although, yes I did know them.
