Seabiscuit Reviews
Holds up after so many years. One of my favorite films!
Although there were moments that dragged on, this is a beautiful story an an enjoyable sports flick.
Have wached it many times, and will do it again. With great gusto
I absolutely loved this movie. Wonderful story, beautifully told. Excellent acting.
I’m not much of a sports enthusiast but this definitely had me glued to the screen wanting to know how the incredible story of this horse changed so much This is mostly too about the humanity surrounding this animal Long but a very good historical sports drama over 20 years later
This is one of my favorite films. It's got a lot of meaning to it, other than just winning. It's about perseverance and will, not just excellence. The music is so inspirational and fitting to the cinematography. And who doesn't love watching one of the beautiful creatures on Earth... The horse.
This was a beautiful movie and it was so well told!
My wife and I viewed this movie recently. We liked it. Yes, it dragged a bit at times, but not in a distracting way. The cast was excellent! The track racing scenes were wonderful. If you love and support Thoroughbred racing, this is a must see.
This is a really powerful story. It just shows you how much heart this movie can take on those who believe in second chances.
Could of been a decent movie if it wasn't so diabetes inducing. This is one step up from being a made for tv movie.
The best horse racing movie and is one of the best sports movies of all time.
Based on a novel by Laura Hillenbrand which is then based on the true story of the legendary racing horse. Starring Tobey Maguire as the jockey John "Red" Pollard, Jeff Bridges as the owner Charles S. Howard and Chris Cooper as the trainer Tom Smith. This film also has narration by David McCullough that does a good job describing the events in the news surrounding the rise of Seabiscuit from colt to race horse champion. The last narration is done by Tobey Maguire and which does throw off the consistency . Plus I'm not a fan of narration in a visual medium, the news updates could have been done within the framework of the narrative. The acting is done well here with some quality actors. The movie does run a little long and is slow in the first act. For the most part this is a good movie and I would recommend a viewing.
A heart and hoof pounding success. Forego cerebral analytics and enjoy the ride.
This should have been awesome. But unfortunately I just didn’t feel a connection with any of the characters as much as I’d have hope. Chris Cooper probably gives the best performance of the film but Tobey Maguire isn’t bad either. It has some heart and relays a nice message about a troubled time, but I can’t help but feel like with more emphasis on the struggling times and in depth character study...Seabiscuit could have been something to behold
Seabiscuit I like the visual look of the film. I think seeing this film what stood out to me was the way this film is cut together and the unique way it is cut and the scene where the son dies we don’t see the car accident but rather see what leads to the accident and the follow up to it. Or how we will focus on the radio voice telling you what will happen in a race while focusing on Tobey McGuire’s character. I like the acting and the unique way this film tells three people and a horse’s story and how they each came together as unlikely companions to become successful. I found it unique how they can tell a story very quickly based upon the amount of food on Tobey McGuire’s food plate and the portion size without saying a word. I like how the horse races are shot in this film to be so visually appealing and how the crowds look in this film to be able to tell a story. I like the times in this film where they show what is happening in the United States that relate to the times such as Henry Ford and the automobile, the Stock Market Crash, The people listen to the radios as Seabiscuit and Admiral Of War race. I think this film tells you more about the characters, horse and the United States while having more heart to the story than the 1940’s SeaBiscuit film. I think this film did a great job showing the differences on the first marriage vs the 2nd marriage and what was different between the two relationships. I love the Radio show in this film and the set decoration and sound props in that radio station that are shown in this film. I love Randy Newman’s music score in this film. It has heart but also can represent a different culture when they go to Mexico. I did not realize till this watch just how many different places they travel to in this film before Seabiscuit is purchased.
An ok Horse movie that does nothing new.
One of thy r more enjoyable sport films. Cracking feel good story, bit soppy but not overly so. Doesn't lay it on too thick.
