Secret Headquarters Reviews

The film has a few interesting moments but Wilson’s laid back style coupled with a weak performance by Michael Pena as the major nemesis leaves this tale in a state of blah.

| Original Score: C | Aug 9, 2023

Some will hate it while others will enjoy it for what it is. That is key here – enjoy it for what it is. It was never aiming to be a blockbuster.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Dec 28, 2022

The film could use a little more Wilson and a lot less Pena.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Dec 19, 2022

The best compliment I can give Secret Headquarters is that, despite the PG rating, the filmmakers never feel like they’re talking down to their audience.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Nov 30, 2022

Despite its vintage Spielbergian vibes, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s family-friendly escapade doesn’t bother with essential storytelling devices like world-building, emotional climaxes, or even basic character development.

| Original Score: D+ | Aug 24, 2022

Basically a less creative and less idiosyncratic Spy Kids produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (that might tell you something).

| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 23, 2022

It struggles to find a consistent tone and lacks a compelling villain, winding up as generic as its title.

Supercharged with zany energy and enough genuine goodwill, Headquarters should make an excellent diversion for families.

There's probably enough going on in "Secret Headquarters" for some young audiences to have a good time, but parents, please: Have your kids' best interests at heart and steer them elsewhere.

Owen Wilson has made some bad movies but this one is one of his weakest. This is not a very good movie at all but looks much better than it deserves to.

| Original Score: 5/10 | Aug 16, 2022

Boilerplate plot fodder – adolescent crushes, mild family discord, the fate of the world and other misc. banalities – all the easier for the movie to glide on by and not leave much of an impression...

It’s lighthearted, formulaic, and cute — your kids will like it and you can look up from the book you’re reading during the dialogue scenes.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 15, 2022

Secret Headquarters is harmless, colourful fun, Home Alone soaked in CGI.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 15, 2022

Unassuming and good-natured, a perfectly fine family entertainment

| Aug 13, 2022

Runs too long and retains little charm.

| Original Score: C | Aug 12, 2022

The problem with this film is that it can't decide if it's for children the age of these characters [13-14] or younger [7-9], and those are different kinds of kids. You can't have both.

| Aug 12, 2022

It feels like a collection of cute ideas that they tried to mash into a kids' film, but it never comes together.

| Aug 12, 2022

The film seems too content to color completely within the lines. The resulting picture might be enough of a diversion for younger kids, but even they won't be missing much if what's in the movie stays secret.

| Aug 12, 2022

Secret Headquarters is as bland and forgettable as its title would suggest.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Aug 12, 2022

This is ... the stuff of fantasy and wish-fulfillment. It's difficult to view it as "fun" in any sense of the word.
