September Dawn Reviews
141011: Movies like this always make me wonder what the truth really is. Tragic story of which the producers obviously had a position. Not sure what the true story is, but always saddened by films featuring human hate. It's ok but can't give it more than three.
Underrated. 13%! It may not be great, but it is quite good and reasonably accurate (aside from the fictional romance).
I'm pleased that this dark chapter of the Mormon Church, and of westward expansion has been addressed in film, but it's a shame that the result is so sappy and ham-handed.
I suppose this film must be decent, because it made me feel angry - only at this particular sect that went and did this horrible act that cannot be wiped from history. But this is a better made film than most make it out to be. The actors in it were compelling, Utah scenery was beautiful, and, as manipulative as this movie is in pulling all the strings, it ended up being effective even amidst the flashy gore. Ambiguities of whether LDS authorities were really involved aside, it's a surprisingly accurate look at an American atrocity.
I thought this to be a pretty funny movie and Jon Voight's overacting had me laughing out loud..don't take the movie too serious and you will have a great time..
Fanatics again show how they will do anything in the name of religion. It disgusts me that religion can be used as an excuse to commit such disgraceful acts.
favourite line: "put me out of my misery!" - exactly what I was thinking
Basically slanders the Mormons. I'm not saying I agree with their beliefs, or that this wasn't accurate, but what does it accomplish? It just makes people angry...
While the actresses didn't do an amazing job, the actors did, the script is so-so, however it is a very important event I feel that people need to know about and has not really ever been spoken of. I didn't even know this ever happened. Because of how violent it was, I don't think I'll ever see it again, but it definitely was worth the watch.
This is Little House on the Praire vs Mormons. I think I'd rather keep watching reruns of Laura Ingalls fighting with Nellie Olson instead. An entertaining film but disturbing. I don't actually believe the Christians were that gullible and nor do I believe the Mormons had such a violent doctrine. There are extremists in every religious facet, even Christianity. Do your own research and your own conclusions. After all, this was part of history I never had heard of.
September Dawn is a weakly treated history-based film. The Director Christopher Cain didn't manage the tune of the film & as a result it came so weak & vulnerable. Editing...enforcing only one concept for the audience to believe....one of the worst acting for Jon Voight.
Icky movie that is both wildly fictional and also very *very* biased. Should be placed in the hate films category, and I don't even like LDS. Poor performances, hackneyed dialog and shoehorned sentiment.
September Dawn. August's biggest yawn. Exploits the atrocities against the church of Mormon. Leave this film behind and move on.
