Set It Up Reviews
The plot was pretty good. There were a lot of funny moments, tough the ending felt a little bit rushed. Some moments felt a little chaotic, which made the parts harder to follow. The actors were a good fit for their roles, but some of the characters coud've had more depth.
Solid film, a good Netflix find - blends 90s and 2010s vibes, a good cast and quotable.
It’s wasn’t movie or the year or anything but I think it deserves a better rating then given. My husband I had some laughs and enjoyed it enough. Just a simple and fun little flick.
A predictable plot, did have good actors but a bad ending. I would say I enjoyed watching it but is wasn’t my favorite.
Great actors with a terrible plot.
Directed by Clair Scanlon Set it Up is a 2018 rom com that stars Glen Powell and Zoey Duetch. First of all is it me or is Glen Powell not in every modern rom com ever made. That man is everywhere. This movie follows two overworked assistants (Harper and Charlie) as they try to get their bosses into a relationship with each other so the assistants can get more time out of the office. Instead while planning they're scheme they end up falling for each other. Harper (Zoey Duetch) refers to it as “cyranoing” which as Charlie (Glen Powell) points out when he finds out what that means it is definitely not and it is “parent trapping”. I'm not sure if it would be safe to say it’s my favorite romcom, but it’s at least safe to say it’s in my top five. One thing that is cliche I know it is , but I love it anyway is that both Harper and Charlie are adorkable in her own way. I love seeing an adorkable man as well as an adorkable woman. I love when rom coms flip tropes like that, adorkable man, manic pixie dream boy ect. One of my favorite parts is the opening sequence. This is a montage of assistance being called by their bosses either in person and on the phone. Within this montage there are also errands being run. I love this because it is very funny and Jaboukie Young White has a cameo where he explains that his bosses rules to duplicate her key “supersede the state of New York’s”. At the end of the thesis sequence everyone leaves work for the day except for Harper and Charlie who are working late. This is the first of multiple montages including them giving their bosses gifts from each other and spending time with friends and such since they now have the time. Harper and Charlie’s witty banter in they’re scheming makes you fall in love with them. Then there’s the irony of them trying to manufacture a relationship between their bosses and in doing so not realizing the very real relationship they are creating with each other. Now. is this film a triumph and a filmmaking masterpiece. No, of course not. It doesn’t ask the questions that probe the mind's deepest recesses. However it is a really fun time on a friday night with your girls or curled up on the couch with your partner.
So manay great lines and moments! I can't believe it isn't more commonly referenced in the real world. Quickly became one of my faves!
Such a great movie! I highly recommend watching this one.
Not enough romance imo I wanted to see more. If Glenn Powell and the other shorty started doing it in the middle of the movie I would’ve liked it more
$5 pizza really do be the best food
Unbelievably bad. Painful at times. Low points just keep on coming. I didn't like anyone and actually wished many characters ill. Relieved to see the closing credits. An unmitigated disaster.
Deutch is the only character worth caring about here and as an actress she combines the natural beauty of a young Rose Byrne with a charming vulnerability. Physically, Powell smacks of William Hurt but lacks his authority; his performance is strictly cookie-cutter romcom. I would have been better off hitting the snooze button.
You know from beginning that they were setting themselves up
I only made it about 20 minutes before I quit. Distasteful in the extreme.
May I just say that you should eat up every second of every Glen Powell romance movie because I am literally in love with each and every one of them. As someone who basically has an addiction to romance movies (especially 2000 movies though), I loved 'Set It Up' with all my heart. In short, two assistants that work in the same building, Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) hate their bosses with this deep passion everyone can relate to. They stay up late, work late, at their bosses service literally twenty-four seven, and have to deal with their anger issues and extreme stubbornness. Harper lets her intrusive thoughts win, thinking if they could lock they lock them up, the bosses could hook up and date and stop being miserable that would free Harper and Charlie from this never ending monstrosity of their bosses chokehold and giving them a breather. It's the plan, the characters, the humour that I really loved and I would really recommend this movie if you love an average, ordinary romance movie, love the 'you've been right in front of me and I was blind to see' trope, and love good chemistry with the characters. Not a single second of this movie was mundane and I loved this with passion.
A good light-hearted rom com. Doesn't overstay its welcome, nor does it stray too far from the cookie cutter formula. Overall there are some laughs, and enough tension throughout the film to stay engaged. Not revolutionary, but not a waste of time either.
It has its funny moments, but the romantic connections are not entirely convincing
De mis comedias románticas de los últimos tiempos favorita. Lo tiene todo, desde los protagonistas que hacen que los quieras hasta una historia cautivadora y divertida. Cada vez que puedo recomendarla, lo hago.
Great cast, good writing. Have watched multiple times and still enjoy with each viewing!
