Sex Tape Reviews

The humour is a slightly uneasy mix of barbs, pratfalls and look-away-now cringe.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 3, 2022

It's painful to watch so many talented people in such a bad movie

| Original Score: 1/4 | Aug 5, 2022

Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel can't save this cringeworthy caper comedy...

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 26, 2021

An R-rated comedy in which the least interesting part of the movie is the sex and the sex talk.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 1, 2021

There are simply not enough amusing moments to fill even the brief 94-minute running time.

| Original Score: 2/10 | Dec 4, 2020

All Sex Tape really delivers is movie stars you love in a movie you won't.

| Original Score: 2.0/4.0 | Sep 22, 2020

Will they succeed? It doesn't matter. Nothing matters.

| Original Score: 2/5 | May 25, 2019

Resorting to cheap sex jokes throughout, as well as being a massive advert for Apple and the iCloud, the film never really musters up the laughs or the necessary narrative drive.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 3, 2019

The most remarkable thing about Sex Tape is how unsexy it is, apart from being completely unfunny, uninteresting and uninspired.

Diaz and Segel are genuinely funny people, who had good chemistry in "Bad Teacher." That chemistry isn't the same here, with the actors saddled in a ridiculous plot that is never as clever as it thinks it is.

| Original Score: D+ | Feb 1, 2019

Nothing in this film works. It has clearly been put together by people who have been given an idea via conference call of what a film looks like and sounds like, but have no idea how to fit everything together.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Feb 19, 2018

There's humour in here for sure, but some more of that playful silliness in between the unnecessary bits would have made this a better watch.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Nov 11, 2017

Sex Tape underperforms even worse than Jay himself -- it is unfunny, predictable and very strenuous.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Nov 9, 2017

Beneath the bad dialogue, bad chemistry, bad editing and bad pacing of the film, a much darker and more serious issue lurks.

| Original Score: F | Aug 17, 2017

Segel and Diaz have a great rapport, and though nothing innovative or rip-roaring happens in the extended comic setpieces, the whole enterprise is enjoyable enough, pure Not As Bad As It Looks.

| Jul 26, 2016

In short, it's a PG plot for an X-rated story.

| May 31, 2016

Sex Tape is surprisingly tame, perhaps too tame.

| Original Score: 2.5/5 | May 31, 2016

Sex Tape is stymied from the get-go by its couch-potato approach to comedy writing and its apparent fondness for smut-fuelled, gender-stereotypical relationship flaps that would make even dating teenagers roll their eyes.

| May 31, 2016

Segel and Diaz have some work ahead of them to erase this one from the pop culture DVR.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 17, 2016

This is a far-fetched, preposterous letdown.
