Sharp Stick Reviews
I found it all really gross.
Kristine Froseth has finally learned how to blow (up a pipeline).
It's been a long time since I've seen a movie this awful oml.
Not good but weird enough
Very Fresh, Loved it, Great cast great story.
Why make this movie? waste of good actors
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but i kind of adored the quirkiness of this film.
Expect a story told with heart. Many have said they didn't buy into the characters, but I found I got quickly invested in them. The story and characters were not convuluted, but simply attempting to portray the messy complexity of humans, our relationships, our desires, our attempts to know who we are and find belonging. Don't expect a nice meet-cute, classical hollywood narrative. If you know Dunham's work, you know that's not her style - known for gritty-realism (and surrealism). If you can handle the sometimes uncomfortable and explicit portayal of sexuality then this film is worth the watch. Don't let the critics fool you.
As "Sharp Stick" (2022 release; 86 min) opens, we are introduced to Treina and Sarah Jo, sisters in their 20s living at home with mom. Sarah Jo is 26 and still a virgin. She works as a nanny/housekeeper of sorts and one day she makes a move onto Josh, her employer and a married father... Couple of comments: this is the latest project from writer-producer-director Lena Dunham, who for good measure also stars (as Josh's wife). Even though the movie's premise seems a little unlikely, given the standard of excellence typically exhibited in Dunham's projects, I decided to give this a try. Alas, I shouldn't have. I don't know exactly what happened here, but something went very wrong. Bottom line is that I never bought into any of the characters, least of all Sarah Jo as the 26 yo virgin. And the storyline doesn't feel credible or likely for most of this either. Despite some great acting talent attached to this (including Kristine Froseth. Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Jon Bernthal, just to name those, this movie just didn't do anything for me, sorry... "Sharp Stick" bypassed US theaters altogether and went straight to VOD upon its release this past summer. It recently started streaming on Hulu, where I caught it. I can't really recommend this to anyone in good conscience. Of course don't take my word for it, so if you are a fan of Dunham's prior output, I'd suggest you check this out (with lowered expectations), and draw your own conclusion.
Ok but not real world relatable. Doesn't seem to have any context & is rather confusing without direction it's just messy and all over the place.
Unwatchable. Useless fabric masks within the first few minutes.
Not sure why someone on here called this wholesome. Just more of Dunham's heavily sexualized material which is fine - when it's good. This felt too scattershot and unfocused to recommend. Better luck next time 'Dunghole'.
Super wholesome and original story, so well acted that I wanted to google during the movie to get to know if she is really autistic or something but the movie was too good to disturb. Such a lovely story, with perfect acting, I believed every second of it.
Sarah Jo is supposed to be 26, but looks like she is 16 so the sex scenes with an older man, were uncomfortable. I couldn't connect with any of the characters nor did I care to.
Lena Dunhams heavily sexualized directing project feels like a pointless exercise in patience and confusion, mostly because you´ll have no idea what the hell any of it actually means or why you´re watching it. One of this years absolute worst movies !
Refreshing and captivating
OMG. Whoever green-lighted this movie? Horrible. Still don't know the point it was trying to make. Would have been worse --if that's possible--withour Joe Bernthal
Garbage, Was very disappointed to see a few of the actors that agreed to play into this poorly written , and really disgusting content. Hollywood wonders why they have lost all influence
I thought that this was a very current, relevant, relatable, and honest coming of age during a pandemic story. The characters were very well developed and the music was great too.
