Shaun of the Dead Reviews
Probably the best zombie movie ever made.
HILARIOUSLY ENTERTAINING AND DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED...A SPECTACULAR MIX OF HORROR IN HUMOUR WITH A VERY STRONG GRIP AROUND THE THROAT....!
Pioneer and benchmark of the Zom-com, and it will be very hard pressed to be defeated. Must surely rank in the top of the list "best movies"?, somewhere? Hilariously funny and remarkably integrates the real world with the story. Razor sharp wit. Cinematography is first class, directed to the tee and very well written. Cast really excels in character. Easy to watch again and again, you'll probably discover something new every time. Great stuff!
The genius of SHAUN OF THE DEAD isn’t in the zombies—it’s in how it skewers the monotony of everyday life. That’s the real apocalypse, and it’s hilariously spot-on.
As someone who doesn't really watch zombie apocalypse movies and not really familiar with the stiry beats I feel like there's a lot I missed in terms of the jokes and the way it made fun of the genre and thus I did struggle to teuly appreciate it. But this is still a really fun movie that did have me chuckling a few times. So yeah still a good watch.
This is a perfect example of a great zombie comedy. Return of the Living Dead is another one of my favorites. The humor based around a zombie apocalypse just works so well in this movie. I put this on whenever I need a feel good movie. I have watched this movie about 20 times and never tire of it.
If you’re a fan of zombie films or want to get started into the horror genre then watch this film. It has good comedic elements, great characters, great story and an actually emotional ending which I will not spoil at all. Watch it.
First of the legendary cornetto trilogy and an amazing zombie comedy movie. I'm not into horror so i was worried to go into this but found out that it is not scary at all! Some tense moments but this movie is absolutely HILARIOUS! Edgar Wright has yet to make a movie that is considered "Bad" and i'm hoping he keeps that trend going. Edgar Wright is an amazing director!
This rom com is a slice of fried gold. It has a killer soundtrack. A stellar cast. And I love the blink & you'll miss them homages to George Romero Zombie films. I heard that George Romero was such a huge fan of this film. While filming the Land of the Dead. He wore Shaun of the Dead pin during the whole filming of the movie. Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg both had a cameo appearance in Land of the Dead. Diane teaching the gang how to act like zombies to fit in with the Zeds & When Ed & Shaun are fighting the Zombies in the garden using everything from blunt objects to the Batman soundtrack is beyond LOL. I love the quick British wit. And the sharp humor. This movie will have you asking isn't Hollywood making more Zomtasic movies like this ? And can dogs look up?
9/10 Great film that was really fun. It was funny, the characters were good the action was good too. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending but it was a good film and he did what he planned he won back his girlfriend he reconciled with his mum and he had a hand in saving London.
Having watched this movie initially 20 years ago, my opinion remains unchanged - it's not a well-made film. I would give it zero stars if possible. The comments section indicates a disparity in comedic taste. It's possible that regional perspectives influence opinions. To me, the acting is unimpressive, the budget is low, and the jokes are unfunny, rendering it a substandard movie. Hopefully, London will produce better content in the future.
An absolute blast of a zombie film!
It contains a surprisingly emotional story for a comedy horror flick
A very funny horror comedy that both satirizes everything ridiculous about zombie movies and celebrates everything awesome about them. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost share irresistible chemistry. You really feel for Simon Pegg's character and the rut he feels stuck in before the outbreak. Very British humor and plenty of witty social commentary with the zombie metaphors. Great creature effects and solid action scenes that are both badass and funny. There's even genuine drama near the end when Simon Pegg's character has an uncomfortable moral dilemma. Easily one of my favorite zombie movies and my personal favorite of Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy.
Great movie, super duper funny.
Edgar Wright on top form with many now classic moments. Horror comedy is a delicate balance of tone and I still feel that it leans a little too far into the darkness in some moments towards the end. Not enough to spoil it though.
Subjectively the best horror film of all time, the humor is absolutely perfect while still catching the tragedy of zombie films perfectly.
It’s so funny and stupid.
Hilarious. Definitely worth a watch.
"Shaun of the Dead" is a movie that accomplishes quite a bit in its modest runtime. The movie can be sweet and heartwarming. Hidden in throughout this movie are some really touching moments. Simon Pegg has some acting that would be considered for an Oscar reel if it weren't in a movie that the Academy sticks their noses up to. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have great chemistry together, I completely believe them as best friends. The fact that this movie is so genuine, is what makes all the other aspects work. Other times it can be action packed and suspenseful. The fact that these characters are not skilled in survival skills does make things funny. But it also makes the action moments more thrilling. These characters are not invincible. The feel human, they feel vulnerable. Any minute of this film they might get killed just from the fact that they have no idea what they're doing. And of course, this movie can be hilarious. The zombie movie genre is ripe for satire and this movie executes things in a very clever way. The writing of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg is very witty. The editing by Chris Dickens needs to be highlighted as well, he makes a lot of these jokes work, and makes sure the movie has no extra fat. There are some characters that do not work in this film. Likewise, there are some moments of character drama that feel a bit forced. Sometimes the incompetence of the characters is more frustrating than it is endearing. But outside of those problems, I highly recommend this film. It has a little bit for everyone. Grab a group of friends, hunker down and don't leave the house until its done.
