Sayang oras. Kulang sa puso para maging coming out of age movie. Ok un mga pop culture references pero may kulang sa kabuuan. Kulang din sa star power. Mas ok sana kung may cameo man lang.

Exceptionally made drama about a homesick guy's first 2 years at an out of state college. Very talky. Similar to the movie "Before Sunrise". Loved it.

What a emotion does this movie have, Cooper Raiff is instantely one of my favorite directors. This movie has it flaws, but the highs are insanely high. That phonecall with his mom, heartbroken. This movie feels so realistic, i think everybody who goes to college has some time like this, such a great movie.

It was better than I thought it was going to be. The title, and to some degree the description, led me to expects some stupid, college frat slapstick comedy. While there was a small bit of that stupid stuff, it was mostly about a distraught youth finding his way. Heartwarming, actually.

You rarely see movies that can touch human emotions on a basic level. I really enjoyed this movie, and related to a lot of parts. The movie has laughter, sadness, surprise everything. Everyone should watch this movie, even though not relatable, it will help one understand what humans go through in real lives.

This is a beautiful movie. It's so brutally honest and heartfelt. Shithouse lives and breathes through Cooper Raiff - director, writer, and star. Each scene is so carefully done and either gut wrenching or butterfly inducing. This movie transported me into these characters' college world so successfully I had a weird come down back to earth after watching it. To top it off - the soundtrack could not have been better. Amazing movie.

Great coming of age college story! Loved the cast, if you like more slow character building, intense in story films then this is for you! Would recommend to anyone who likes A24 & IFC style films

There's something beautiful about the simplicity of this movie. It seems like it'll be a college comedy about a frat house but instead it's a character study on two people who are struggling in different ways. The chemistry between the leads is fantastic and their dialogue is refreshingly realistic, as is where their relationship eventually goes.

A lot of attention to detail and honesty. Most characters feeling very much like people I've met. Not exactly revolutionary, but very much on point. Extra quarter-star for how hard it must be to make a decent movie in this shithouse environment. 4.25/5

Following an overwhelmingly awkward and almost anti-social charachter, the story is smartly constructed to show a gracefully empathetic look at today's american colossal(ly lost) youth.

Shithouse (Freshman Year in Australia) is a small budget wonder, a very perceptive, funny, tender film about fitting in and growing up. It is the feature film debut from 24yo Cooper Raiff, who also wrote, produced, edited and stars in the film. He plays Alex, a freshman college student who is really struggling to fit in and find friends. He has an obnoxious roommate which doesn't help matters, but one day his roommate invites him to a party at 'Shithouse'. At the party he meets Maggie and they awkwardly hit it off. They leave the party and spend a night of wandering and talking. In fact most of the film is taken up with their conversation. But after making out, the next day becomes more awkward and Maggie feels suffocated by Alex. It's all very beautifully handled and illustrates the growing pains of leaving home and becoming an adult. The film has a gentle sprit and feels extremely natural and unforced. An absolute credit to Raiff.

An excellent and unusual coming of age drama which shares more in common with something like Damsels In Distress (2011) rather than American Pie (1999). A homesick freshman who attends a party and spends the night with a girl has a bout of reality of the situation of college life the following day. The night takes up a lot of the film, and the reality and struggles of what follows is the remainder, and it is brilliantly effective. It's a fresh take on the genre, and if you can track it down it is absolutely worth a watch.

For such a title, it was a warm and feel good comedy.

Tender and quite funny. A late coming-of-age kind of tale.

I loved this movie so much, I am willing to overlook the fact that these people are mostly pushing 30 and playing teenagers. Newbie filmmaker Cooper Raiff nails everything about college and the individual personalities you encounter along the way. Raiff gets the best out of Dylan Gelula, who always plays the same character, but here she's nuanced. It's a charming first feature about the traditional college student. I'm not sure it connects for a commuter or someone who doesn't travel for college, but this was my wheelhouse. The film gets people. It has a certain authenticity that is rarely encapsulated in a movie of this genre. There's a depth to the characters. Raiff gets people, at least college-aged people and that makes him a talent to watch! Final Score: 9/10

We all love our RA. A freshman struggling in college befriended his dorm's RA, and they spent the night and learned about each other. Early on, the movie had a great way of showing how our main character was lonely. Whenever the camera turned to his stuffed animal, there's always subtitles that replied back to our main character. Apparently it was him talking to his friend, the stuffed animal. Another part was that he's a mommy boy. He tried to go to parties, and clearly he was very awkward. The first half of the story was mostly him on a walk with his RA, and for like 20 minutes it was just them talking. The way they talked was very realistic. It was awkward and had a bunch of repeating words. It just felt like I was watching two real life college students talking, not two actors remembering the script and acting out. This is possible because the two main actors were phenomenal. Then the conflict happened. Both sides clearly did things wrong, and the movie did not show who's right or wrong. These scenarios definitely could happen in real life. Also, there's no emotional scene where they all made up. Overall, a realistic and funny slice of life that showed some college students living their lives in college. 8.5/10

This is why Americans can't relate to anyone not American. They are just a different breed.
