Side Effects Reviews
Side Effects is a captivating thriller that masterfully intertwines timely themes with an intricate plot. Steven Soderbergh delivers a film that's both exhilarating and thought-provoking, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. The all-star cast shines, with Rooney Mara and Catherine Zeta-Jones delivering stellar performances. Channing Tatum and Jude Law also excel in their roles, adding depth to the complex narrative. The film's exploration of the darker aspects of psychology and its intersection with the business world raises compelling questions. Side Effects is a must-see that didn't receive the recognition it deserved during its award season.
I bet the drug companies loved this film for it exonerates them of responsibility for the adverse side effects of their psychoactive drugs and implies the side effects are malicious acts of individuals for evil intent. I bet Psychiatrists hate this film, for it implies they are gullible fools to be conned by anyone however young. The acting is not convincing. Maybe because they actors are required to tell a lie, to deny the very real adverse side effects of psychoactive drugs. The film seems to run out of time. The end telling you rather than showing and engaging you which makes the ending feel false.
Some twists and turns with great acting.
Tedious dross. Neither the story or the characters are credible. The context and the driving ideas rarely meet. An audio visual sedative prescribed for those who find it hard to wait for silly reveals.
This was a great movie, but the ending wasn't what I wanted.
Soderbergh has made many brilliant movies. In the case of "Side Effects" was frankly shocked at how truly awful this movie is. This is without a doubt the worst movie Soderbergh ever made. On the surface it looks promising. Within 5 minutes the film begins to unravel. Rooney Mara is absolutely awful. Wow. I know she has big connections, but why would a director of the calibre of Soderbergh hire someone so true bad? Did her family put up some production money? I've seen much more acting from both Jude Law & Catherine Zeta-Jones & know they both can do so much better than this schlock. They both probably want to forget about this movie too. I wonder if something went on behind the scenes where the story had to be rewritten --- or something. Did financing fall through & suddenly they had a week left to finish this ludicrous project?
A continuously enthralling thriller that plays its winding twists and turns to great effect. Jude Law is a dashing leading man and the premise makes for a great deal of suspense and intrigue. Highly recommended.
Started out interesting but figured out where it was going half way through. Felt a little Hollywood formulaic by the end. Like we've seen this plot a million times before. Wasn't a waste of time though.
This is a really amazing movie with amazing actors. Twists and turns and very well written.
A smart and clever thriller with enough twists to keep you guessing until the end.
Smart, effective, and real. Another great effort by Steven Soderbergh. Good cast.
This is a very thought provoking film that may stick with you for awhile.
How does this movie have good reviews? It was dumb.
A brisk mystery thriller that's on the better side of the genre. I'd give it a B
This is just a good all around thriller/suspense movie, with a few twists and turns. I think what I like most about this movie, is if you watch it blind, without knowing anything about it or seeing a trailer, this movie will continue to surprise you like every 15-20 mins. Just when you think you know what this movie is going to be about, something happens that shifts that into a different plot/category you weren't expecting. All of the actors do very well Rooney Mara's bangs are the worst part about this movie.
Excellent twists and turns!
This movie is well acted, but genuinely stupid. The plot goes beyond stupid, the set design had to be made by a crackhead, and the third act may as well have been a lullaby.
A fantastic movie that makes me all the more happy that I never ventured into becoming a psychologist.
Excellent acting and superb plot twists.
Great acting and direction. I enjoyed the movie even with some little holes in the plot.
