They squeezed in quite a bit of artistry and style into this movie despite how bog standard it sounds on paper. Still just a silly comedy, but with solid direction and great cast and music.

I thought I had turned on a Richard Linklater movie. Turns out I had an extra "S."

3.4 . Jason Schwartzman was excellent in this movie . Please don’t let me ever run out of these

Dave Goodman (Devon Sawa), Sam Schecter (Jason Segel), and Jeff Davis (Michael Maronna) are best friends who have spent almost four years at Holden University scamming their way through college. During one exam scam in their final semester Dave discovers Angela (Jaime King), and asks her out while writing his phone number on her exam sheet. Ethan Dulles (Jason Schwartzman), a classmate obsessed with Angela to the extent of collecting loose hairs and making a hair doll and having surveillance photos and a shrine to Angela setup in his dorm room, takes her exam question sheet after Angela leaves and uses it to repeatedly confront and then blackmail the guys into setting up a successful date with Angela for him in exchange for his silence on the matter. The guys set Ethan up in multiple situations in an attempt to convince Angela to like him, while Dave tells Sam during their work researching her that Angela is no more important to him as any other scam they have done. Ethan fails to attract her after frequent confrontations based on his delusional behavior, immaturity and ignorance of social norms. Though Ethan seems a lonely harmless nerd, he is scheming, psychotically obsessive and hopelessly socially incompetent... Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus reads: "Another teen comedy with little on its mind but moving to the next gross-out gag, Slackers strains for laughs and features grating characters." Slackers was marketed as a raunchy comedy primarily, rather than as a romantic comedy, which was fair to the content; Philip French commented that "Slackers makes American Pie look like The Importance of Being Earnest." Roger Ebert of The Chicago Sun-Times awarded the film a zero out of four stars and described the film as "a dirty movie. Not a sexy, erotic steamy or even smutty movie." This is beyond bad in my book. A good example of a truly poor college comedy. Jaime King is the only treat in "Slackers" and I am sorry she had to be in this pile of dung.

Solid and funny. Devin Sawa is fairly insufferable which is the only reason I’d didn’t rate it higher. Pete and Marshall and Jason Swartz man are great

Decent watch, could watch again, and can recommend. I don't think this is a movie anyone is going to watch again and again, but I believe it's memorable enough to be somewhat infamous. This is the movie with the hairdoll. My big problem with this movie is that the protagonists are scumbag liars and cheaters, and while the antagonist is somewhat crazy, he's the villain because he catches them in the act of misdeeds. That he uses the information to his advantage is actually somewhat symbolic of heroic stories, but he's such a nutcase that it is twisted. I'd love to see a reboot of this with Schwartzmen's character as the protagonist, but with some proper character development would be a great movie, this is, at best, a good movie.

This movie is hilarious!

At times the hammy acting, self-aware melodrama, and leftfield jokes can be charming, but that's not enough to make "Slackers" a good film- which suffers from predictability, an awful plothole ending, and obnoxious characters/scenes.

4/15/2026: An ok movie at best. Mildly entertaining, but the "villain"is too over the top.

A funny film with an awesome cast!!!!

Tahu nggak? (mau pake bahasa indo). gue pengen banget nonton film ini sejak film ini dirilis tahun 2002 dulu. dan gue baru nonton ini kemarin malam karena berhasil donlot! bayangkan. 12 tahun daku menunggu dan tahu tidak, kenapa gue pengen banget nonton film ini? karena gue kepengen dengerin lagu soundtracknya, yaitu "The Sign" by Ace Of Base yang di remake pake paduan suara di film ini. dan woah,, bagus lagunya, kalo film nya sih biasa-biasa aja.

I am giving this movie four stars with no remorse. Even though it was a stupid College comedy the actors were good and for some reason I like the plot. I mean, Devon Sawa, Jason Schwartzman, Jason Segel, Laura Prepon, and Jamie king? Awesome.

Good movie. Slackers is a cliché-ridden, vulgar, one gross-out-gag waiting to happen after another. But that's the appeal of it. It's cheesy and somewhat unoriginal, feeling like The Perfect Score meets American Pie, but it's very funny, pretty well-written, and has good performances from its cast, especially Schwartzman and Segel.

I actually enjoyed this movie to a certain level, even though I have no reason to have done so. I don't know why. Perhaps it came out at exactly the time I was heading to college myself. Either way, I recognize it as a guilty pleasure.

There's so many good people in this movie. I had such hopes.

Not the worst movie I have re-watched from my middle school days, but not a good movie at all. It has a few laughs here and there. However, unless in the mood for a low-brow comedy don't watch this movie.
