Lovely movie!! I watched it bc the book "Maybe in Another Life" was inspired by this movie. I liked it but the ending was a little sad. The movie follows 2 parallel lives of the girl: one where she gets fired from her job and makes it onto the train, and one where she misses the train and it's too late to get on. In the one where she gets on the train, she comes home to find her stay-at-home boyfriend (or husband?) having sex with another woman. She runs into the funny guy who she met on train and they have a wonderful romance. He inspires her to start her own successful company. But one night as it was raining and she was crossing the road, a car hits her and she dies in her lover's arms. So that was too sad. In the one where she misses the train, in the end, she still finds her partner cheating on her because his mistress leads her to the mistress's apartment. Her partner never wanted her to find out and wanted to be loyal to her again. Afterwards, she runs into the funny train guy in the elevator and it's the start of their romance, supposedly. However, in this one, she doesn't start her own company but she instead works at a restaurant as a waitress. I guess there are many lives that we can lead depending on our decisions! They all have pro's and cons.

Apart from there being no such thing as "If", Paltrow is a Dog what never could act. How do you stop her creeping around my private corridors inside my Mind.... And who was the thing that said Mr Hannah could ever smever Act......

I love this movie! I had watched it many many years ago, and always remembered liking it. Recently watching it again, it stood up to the test of time. I'm actually shocked it has such low ratings on here.

I love this movie. I think it is clever and fun. Gwyneth Paltrow is amazing.

Maybe if the lukewarm script fell into the hands of an ambitious director with distinct style, 'Sliding Doors' would be a clever little love triangle dramedy.

Our life is full of sliding doors for many different paths Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah in a love story almost like 'Lola's Run' Helen is a London as executive who sadly gets fired The film ends up showing two different timelines of her getting on the train and missing it In one instance she catches her boyfriend in bed with another woman While in the other she comes home explaining her bad day almost getting mugged In the midst of it all she meets a man named James and might end up falling for him after discovering her own boyfriends shady behavior growing more miserable by the second I thought this was ok and it feels gimmicky given the split-narrative Life can easily change in an instant for better or worse, we can expect a different outcome from the same choices, should we spend time wondering about the what ifs

A great movie. Two stories for the price of one.

What difference does one minute make? All the difference in the world, for Helen Quilley played by Gweneth Paltrow. This movie chronicles a period in Helen's life from the perspective of what happens when she misses a subway train in contrast to her just making it onboard. It's an interesting concept that plays well in this film.

An intriguing and well done plot device "Sliding Doors" tells the parallel paths Helen's (Paltrow) life would take if she did or if she didn't catch her live in boyfriend Jerry (Lynch) cheating on her. One Helen continues with her boy Jerry while the other picks up with a new man (Hannah). The movie goes from funny, charming, sad and heartwarming in a dizzying manner, which also means there are some plot inconsistencies that just keep this from four stars. Very enjoyable.

The idea of how outcomes can change based on a split-second difference in how things happen is philosophically fascinating. Even if events unfold differently, is the ultimate outcome predetermined, as this story suggests? The movie Sliding Doors symbolizes this perpetual riddle for me, and has stuck with me, frequently coming to mind. Quantum physics, two realities, and all that. The entire cast was terrific. Paltrow was utterly convincing. I loved the movie. I highly recommend Sliding Doors.

Outstanding performances all around and Hannah plays an exceptional leading man even if he is unorthodox. Emotional and not overly dramatic. A unique film with a satisfying resolve.

I've seen this movie about 15 times and I love it every single time. Period. Man this flick makes you think about different angles of life. You have you watch this movie!!

Okay here we go .... I want to give this movie a bad review but there are so many saving grace in it that redeems the movie. The story and the idea of jumping vignette in two separate universe is a good idea but the execution was just clumsy and ended making the overarching story fall flat However ..... There is a charm Gwyneth Paltrow brought to this movie and she totally had me hooked , I bought the chemistry with John Hannah( gwyneth British accent was a bit off though) Overall a decent love story

I really liked the premise and promise of this film, what would happen if one small event changed everything? Unfortunately i didn't feel the execution was any good. Both male leads seemed bland especially Paltrow's original partner, how he had 2 women clamouring for him is anyone's guess?! I just wanted more from it.

A very polarizing film for me, as it is full of hits and misses. The idea, directing, and acting is solid, but the story tries to be too clever and ultimately falls short of what could have been a film to still be talked about, instead of forgotten in time,
