Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins Reviews
Ultimately, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins isn’t a very good film and serves as a case of wasted potential. Hardcore fans may be able to overlook the film’s editing issues and have a good time with it.

Henry Golding is FANTASTIC IN THE MOVIE & he SAVES THE FILM. Without him I would of found the film boring. The action is too shaky & will give some headaches, & even the story here is way too much.

With a confusing plot, a large amount of shaky cam, and some dated ninja clichés sprinkled throughout its excessive runtime, Snake Eyes never really finds its narrative footing.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 25, 2023
It’s brought down by the story’s slow patches, the weird mystical goofiness, and the odd choice to leave G.I. Joe on the backburner. Snake-Eyes doesn’t even put on his signature mask and visor until the final scene.

The issue is the lifelessness of it all. Lots of action films are unoriginal or over-reliant on set pieces, but the better ones tend to have a bit of joy to them. This dour tone chokes the life out of its star.

A Hail Mary destined to keep the G.I. Joe franchise down for good.

I wanted Snake Eyes to be the sleeper hit of the summer. Instead we have an overcooked studio hodgepodge, hoping to be so many things and ultimately being nothing of consequence at all.

Snake Eyes follows closely to its predecessors in terms of quality; not perfect, but not entirely terrible either, and is entirely saved by its hardworking cast.

It's a surprisingly neat entertainment that demonstrates why the second act could be the screenwriter's worst enemy.

Strangely, despite some strong action sequences, clever weaving of the G.I. Joe universe, and a compelling crime thriller narrative, the incongruities within reduce Snake Eyes to little more than a missed opportunity.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 29, 2021
It's worth noting that it doesn't just make the minimum effort to be the best of the three but that it actually works hard to offer more than just bubble-gum thrills.

While Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is an improvement, this franchise still has a long way to go before it truly finds its footing

While Golding offers a different portrayal than the rich, debonair pretty boy we have seen in the past, he can't save this film.

It's likely this will make fans unhappy and general audiences will not find this one engaging enough. It's very likely this will not spur more of these sadly.
| Original Score: 5.0 | Oct 9, 2021
Golding breathes enough life into the title role to make it worth a look.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 26, 2021
A forgettable action/superhero movie that aims for gravitas but ends up feeling rather insignificant. Is this the start of the GIJOECU? I doubt it.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Aug 25, 2021
In this context, it's hard to tell if Henry Golding, the movie's star, has potential as an action man. Is he too pretty and polite? His grimacing just makes him look like someone trying to get into a pair of tight trousers.

Snake Eyes seems to barely recognise the talents of the cast it has on hand.

It's the franchise that nobody wanted, featuring characters that nobody cares about and starring an actor who struggles with the basics of the craft.
