Solitary Man Reviews
This is a kind of interesting film. The main flaw is the main character, Ben Kalmen - someone who isn't very likeable. He has a way of distancing himself from others, including (of course) decent friends. The performances are ok and it's pretty watchable, if a bit cheesy/cringe-inducing at times perhaps, at worst. I suppose it was interesting to see how Ben worked around his situations, to not allow others to see (or perceive) him as he knew himself to be, indeed as he is - a bit of a drifter. It's not a film that will appeal to all but its ok.
Middle aged (0ld) men will get this movies. Others probably won't hence the negative reviews. And that's just fine with me.
The movie sucked, it was boring. It was disgusting to see Mike's wrinkly old body, and even more disgusting to see him groping and kissing that beautiful, young college girl.
Good movie with yet again , Michael Douglas playing a sleepy jerk , which he does well. I really liked the story line , but wished the movie was fleshed out more. If they had actually shown growth or a learning curve for Douglasses character ( not anything sappy ) it would have been a much better movie. Douglas very good at playing this character type...
This was very good. Michael Douglas is great obviously. Definitely recommend this one. I wouldn't call it a comedy tho more of a drama/study on getting older.
Liked this one quite a lot. Interesting script and topic about a man's struggle with growing old, reclaiming his youth by living like a sleazy prick, the kind that can profile a person in a crowded room, but who inevitably ends up alone and getting the shit kicked out of him. Great cameos from Sarandon, Danny DeVito, and the young Imogen Poots (for playing that precocious young C**nt so well!)
Michael Douglas er rigtig god, fordi han formentlig bare spiller sig selv i rollen som uforbederlig scorekarl i galoperende midtlivs/alderdoms-krise.
Man, I went into this hoping for something of the magic of Wonder Boys, but holy shit, all I basically got was Douglas playing a mostly unrepentant asshole who doesn't really learn much from the situation he creates for himself, and he has little to no growth as a human being, making things a largely frustrating viewing experience. Rental? At best?
Decent movie. Good acting, decent story, good character development. But, the movie wasn't that memorable.
Just okay. There is a story, but not very exciting. It ends as you'd expect it too. One word: 'meh'.
Plääh, pitikin jäädä katsomaan tätä toistamiseen... elokuvan loppu sentään jäi mielenkiintoisella tavalla mietityttämään... ;) (Suom. Solitary man - Pelimies)
Excellent film that douglas carries f start to finish. He plays an absolute down and out bum who seems to have no remorse for his actions and seems to live life w no consequence. I found myself wanting to feel bad for him but I couldnt. Douglas proves he plays the creep very well yet again...I recommend this film for Michael Douglas's performance alone
Judge him or Hate him... He is and will always be what he is... Inspite moral pressures from society and family, the protagonist grows up to realize that inspite of the loneliness it brings, the individualistic life he leads is what he actually wants. Michael Douglas squeezes himself in the Solitary Man as if the character was his own blood, flesh and skin... I rate it Four stars... Out of which, Three stars for the movie and One star entirely for Michael Douglas's performance...
