Sound of Metal Reviews
This movie changed my whole perspective on the deaf community. A must watch!
Masterful and devastating.
This movie SUCKED. It was slow, boring, and has major plot holes. I don’t recommend. I kinda wish I didn’t waste my time with this film at all.
The film honestly sucked. It's very slow, but above all doesn't make any sense. I mean, I understand the movie as well as the plot. There are many areas where the film is not logical. It honestly just isn't very good and I was happy when the film was finally over.
Una hermoso viaje de auto sanación que además muestra una mirada evocadora de la comunidad sorda
A very good film that deserves oscar attention for lead performance.
As someone who has severe hearing loss caused by industrial noise, this film gives a very realistic look at how hearing loss affects the individual. Ruiz Ahmed’s acting as Ruben the drummer is superb. Have a box of tissues handy
Good movie. A bit slow sometimes, and I don't know if the ending satisfied me, but worth a watch!
Eh. Some good acting, kind of. But I thought it had a very strange agenda. The movie seemed to suggest that the lead character, a drummer and musician, had to give up his loves of drumming and music (except that he could teach drumming to hard-of-hearing folks). He also apparently had to give up his girlfriend and partner, because she was still part of the hearing world so it would never work (who would he talk to at parties?) I guess he needed to reject any hearing aids that science might offer him, too, because... because science bad. I kind of hated the movie. I would have preferred to see the guy find a way to continue making music in spite of the challenges, but perhaps that would have been counter to the filmmakers' message. Ick.
Loved this movie! Don’t really think it deserved a 5 star rating but nevertheless it was pretty damn good. A nice journey on an unwanted new life and dealing with it. Loved Riz Ahmed in this and his monologue was so impacting, great stuff!!
Great story & insight into the lives of a deaf community. Great acting with a slow burn vibe.
Hard-hitting drama where a man learns not so much to cope with a newly developed disability, but to change his whole perspective on life. The filmmaking is soo visceral and immersive it really puts you in the shoes of someone suffering from hearing loss. It's a real dissection of the things that are important in life. Super powerful.
While this is only a small part of the deaf community, I am pleased to see it presented with heart & honesty. Depending upon growing maturity, the male lead character shows interpersonal heart & peace by an amazing actor.
Captivates and pulls the viewer in only to find that it feels rushed and lacking the real emotion a situation like this contains, maybe because there’s no big reason to feel for the character... other than ’feel bad, man.’ Not a bad or unlikeable character but definitely not endearing, not one that many hearts go out to. Nevermind that he never really wanted to be in the program and left the first chance he got and didn't look back. This is like a paint-by-numbers 'physically challenged and overcoming the odds' story. In the end I wasn’t sure what it was trying to say and not sure what to make of the end.
amazing acting and performance. A MUST SEE MOVIE
Amazing and brutally honest film. Awesome to see ASL represention in film
I was intrigued by the premise of this film right off the bat. The film follows a drummer as he suddenly and inexplicably loses his hearing. He finds refuge in a home for people coping with sudden loss of hearing and finds tough love from a no-nonsense mentor as he struggles to accept his new life. My biggest complaint with this film is the music at the beginning. He is in an experimental noise metal band (is the best way I can describe it) and it’s just annoying. I wish they had produced some better music for opening scenes of the film. The filmmaker puts little effort into the musical aspect of a film about a musician.
Intense. Very well made and acted. A must see.
