Souvenir Reviews
Huppert proves the old adage that acting is reacting, and she can do wonderful things with a line like "My father thinks you're great-and that bugs my mother."

A tender, sweet film that leaves us with a goofy smile on our face.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 30, 2018
Director Bavo Defurne does little to turn the movie into anything more than a pleasant diversion -- the kind of movie in which not much comes as a surprise but we hardly care.

All the action in Souvenir happens in such a dreamlike haze, that it's my personal pet theory that none of it is actually real and Liliane has been sitting in front of the 온라인카지노추천 the whole time
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 14, 2018
Huppert's charismatic portrayal hits many of the right notes, although the lightweight screenplay doesn't provide much substance for her to work with.

The only compelling thing about Souvenir is the the opportunity it provides to see Isabelle Huppert.
| Mar 2, 2018
The presence of Huppert makes Souvenir well worth a look.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Mar 2, 2018
Defurne is happy to let things unfold on the surface, la Douglas Sirk. He clearly worships Huppert, and seems to rely on audiences feeling the same way, doing little to enhance her natural charms.
| Mar 2, 2018
The story is as predictable as they come, played out at such a low emotional temperature as to be practically ignorable.

While there's poignancy to be found in Souvenir's depiction of aging and work, the sexual politics leave something to be desired.
| Feb 28, 2018
Defurne's film is highly stylized with vibrant colors and modern interiors. The incomparable Huppert gets to sing a few songs and model some fabulous dresses, but it is her sly, expressive performance that really dazzles.

[Bavo Defurne] lacks the mordacity and inventiveness to live up to [the film's] ambitious purpose. [Full Review in Spanish]

[Director Bavo] Defurne never finds the right tone to tell this (trite) story.

The worst sin of Souvenir is its indecision. [Full Review in Spanish]

[Souvenir] lacks reflective moments and humor. [Full Review in Spanish]

... Souvenir tries to package its kitsch as dressed-up fun, but all it does is give Isabelle Huppert something to do between her real movies.
| Sep 30, 2017
Everything about the film's later stages feels phoney.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 15, 2017
Even the great Isabelle Huppert can have a misfire, it seems.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jun 25, 2017
A cutesy paper-thin premise is given genuine gravitas by the French screen heavyweight Isabelle Huppert.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jun 23, 2017
Huppert has a lightness of touch that makes it all rather sweet and the film takes an unassuming approach to the central romance, pleasingly refusing to make a big deal of the age difference.
