Spies in Disguise Reviews
Spies in Disguise has a lightness in its humor and a thoughtfulness in its discussion of how to solve problems, with a great voice acting turn from Will Smith.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Jan 19, 2020
It's bright and breezy from start to finish, with an intelligent and humorous script, and engaging voice performances from Smith, Holland and Mendelsohn.

There are some nice action set pieces, fights and chases. But the real fun lies in Beckett's "biodynamic concealment" experiment which misfires and turns Sterling into a pigeon, or "flying mouse" as he hatefully calls them.

The formula of Spies in Disguise doesn't exactly turn into sludge, but first-time directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane don't have it quite perfect, either.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 30, 2019
With its giddy pace and dizzying action set pieces, it's an enjoyable holiday watch for family audiences.

Geek and hero make for a decent enough odd couple; geek and pigeon are often a hoot.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 27, 2019
"Spies in Disguise" is notable for its anti-violence stance but elsewhere operates like a hybrid of other animated movies you've seen, part "The Incredibles," part "The Secret Life of Pets," and 100 percent skippable.

You could do worse with your family after opening holiday presents -- and it might even give you something to talk about with your relatives of varying political persuasions.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 26, 2019
"Spies in Disguise" is a stylish spy caper with heart and humor, an endearing friendship, and an equally endearing affection for Team Weird.
| Original Score: B+ | Dec 25, 2019
Nearly every scene pops with bright colors, and the characters have giant heads and big eyes, the better to convey their every emotion.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 24, 2019
Spies In Disguise is buoyant, zippy and pleasing to look at. With all the glitter and rainbow weaponry at Beckett's disposal, the movie doesn't want for bright colours.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 24, 2019
Entertaining but ephemeral.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 24, 2019
The lessons are so treacly, and their delivery method so single-minded, that the Valley Girl phrase "gag me with a spoon" springs to mind.
| Dec 24, 2019
Its true charm lies in the interplay between Smith and Holland.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Dec 23, 2019
Kids will probably love it.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 23, 2019
There's a level of craftsmanship that's to be admired, even as you tick off every predictable sequence and plot point as it advances steadily to its obvious conclusion.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 21, 2019
Call it The Spy Who Doved Me: a body swap comedy pushed to unusually daft extremes, even by the standards of the form.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Dec 20, 2019
It might not be the best movie of the year, but its faults are nothing worth ruffling feathers about.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Dec 19, 2019
Spies in Disguise is a fair-to-middling example of a movie that knows its core demographic and rarely bothers to aim higher than, oh, 4 foot, 4 inches.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 19, 2019
"Spies in Disguise" is also kind of a weird, and that's why it works. Here's hoping more movies take that intel to heart.
