Spinning Gold Reviews

Mar 7, 2025

I enjoyed this movie very much......but only because of the music involved. This movie could've been done SO MUCH BETTER; but I'm still happy I watched it. If you love that Era of music, you'll probably enjoy it, even with it's shortcomings.

Its a true story, based on Neil Bogart's life in the 1970's in the music industry and the rise and fall of Casablanca Records. Fascinating story, about his talented search for artists and discovering many popular musicians who he brought to fame and fortune.

Mostly underrated movie. Perhaps only to explain with expectations of receiving an historical precisely copy of an area of musical culture that isn't quite explainable in a rational way. That's isn't what the movie will present. It shows precisely the common sense of a unique cultural movement.

The movie is a bit topical however the critics have been a bit too harsh in their reviews. The movie does bring to life the character who plays the part quite well although admittedly rather superficially. We all knew these songs but many I bet didn’t know the man behind them, even today. The story of what this man did in his short life along with the nostalgia and the knitting together of these great stars makes watching the film rather satisfying.

I thought it was fabulous. A great story well told and fabulous music. It was incredibly sad in parts , particularly the end when he died so very young. He never really got to enjoy the years of hard work and stress that paid off in the end. I would recommend this film.

This movie is horrible. I literally made this account to tell you this movie is so bad. Like the Blatant use of AI for the backgrounds? I haven't seen that bad of CGI for years. And the horrible offensive remakes to the music which this movie is literally ALL ABOUT?? You guys ruined the whole meaning and how passing this music down to new generations. Why does the music in this movie sound like C R A P pop remake versions of these classic-classic songs. I'm so ANGRY. Also like no cohesion. Honestly so disappointed because this could have been SO good.

The true story was better than this rerun. None of the original artists so the music sounds dull and uninspiring. I fell asleep.

Spinning Gold is a musical biopic starring Jeremy Jordan as record producer Neil Bogart who discovered and produced many great artists like Donna Summer, Parliament, KISS, the Isley Brothers and many more. This movie starts off not so strong and has this cheesy tone to it that was unsettling and honestly made me second guess my decision in watching this movie but Jeremy Jordan steals the show 1000% as his acting got better throughout the movie and as the story progressed, I got more invested and intrigued into the movie and the story of the downfalls of Casablanca Records and then the rise of the most successful independent record label. I do feel like the movie is a bit too long as many scenes have musical acts from Jeremy Jordan since he is a very good singer, but they just felt unnecessary. This story just like many others is generic and the writing is just not great. The direction that was taken in this movie was in the right direction but there were definitely some missteps, like some scenes being too long or like in the first act when it was very quick paced and rushed. Overall, Spinning Gold is a generic biopic that does have some interesting plot points about the rise of Casablanca Records, and does have a great lead in Jeremy Jordan but other than that, this is just a movie you put on when you fold some laundry. C+

Watch it if you feel nostalgic about the 1970s music scene. The music sequences don't sound bad but the actors casted for Gladys Knight & Donna Summer look nothing like them at all which was a letdown. Has a lite 온라인카지노추천 movie if the week vibe that some viewers will find cheesy...but I was ok with it.

bad dialogue, incredibly bad casting, bad acting, wrong clothing and wrong hair, pale compared to reality, flat, superficial … like the queen movie too clean, polished for a generation that has not grown any balls.

very amateurish script with dialogues made up of catchphrases and repetitive metaphors that make the film seem like a cheap television special.

First of all: Thank you, Neil Bogart, as without him we might have never enjoyed the sounds of Donna Summer, Kiss and many others. Have you ever heard of him? Well, as he himself (the actor, of course) mentions at the end of the movie, probably nobody. But it was his relentless effort and insanity which have put some of the most iconic records on our turntables or onto tapes into our tape recorders. Thus said, this movie is an ode by his sons to their father (they wrote and produced it), and as one realizes during the movie he actually deserved this recognition, though it is obvious that the sons obviously had a very benign and proud view of their father. Thus, understandably the description and views are quite one-sided. Now to the movie itself: Whenever there is music, it is absolutely great, with mostly unforgettable songs of the fifties to seventies. But when there is drama, there is definitely way too much drama and at times it becomes dull, clearly showing the adoring attitudes of his sons' hands in the production. All in all it is an interesting movie to watch, but one that you can just as well enjoy at home, where, when the talking gets too extensive, you can skip forward. 5 1/2 of 10 points. P.S.: At the end, mixed with the titles, you can actually see footage of interviews and scenes of the real guy who actually seemed quite cool.

I thought that this movie was fantastic! I loved the history of Casablanca records, the struggle of the music business and all the artists they signed. The acting was incredible.

The movie was ok but they could have done better.

A missed opportunity. The real story should be interesting, but this movie Is almost completely devoid of flow, of rythm. Sections of the movie are painful to watch, they feel very artificial, phony and interesting. I mean huge sections. Casting of the artists is terrible. The main character is portrayed as a very fake, vain, egotistic and irritant person. If they were trying to paint this portrait on purpose, well they nailed it. When "Donna Summers" appeared, it was like..what??? She didnt resemble the real one at all. In less than 15 minutes, it was very clear that the movie was a flop. Nothing on the movie was well done, or approached on an original or fresh way. I consider the direction, edition and overall Quality of the movie to be dissapointing. This should not have been released like this.

This movie was so horrible. I was embarrassed for the people who made it. A total fail. Possibly made by people who had never seen a movie before. Just a brutal movie in every conceivable way. People spent money to make this steamer? Crazy

This showbiz movie was really good. Jeremy Jordan, Michelle Monaghan, Jay Pharoah, Lyndsy Fonseca, Dan Fogler, Peyton List, James Wolk, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. This true story about Neil Bogart and Casablanca Records was dramatic, inspirational, and entertaining. It's about doing what you love and doing it the right way to make sure everyone is happy and wins in the process. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.

The story is fine. Jordan is good. Jay Pharoah is great. The actors were all ok EXCEPT those who served as Kiss and Donna Summer. Woeful. They neither looked or sounded their parts. The Donna Summer numbers almost gave me a migraine. She destroyed those wonderful songs. The Kiss songs were utterly awful. They basically wrecked an otherwise ok film.
