Spoiler Alert Reviews
Excellent movie, the actors are great and the story line true to life. A must to see.
Love never stops surprising you. Even when you know how it ends. Spoiler Alert is a 2022 American romantic comedy-drama film based on the 2017 memoir Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies by Michael Ausiello, directed by Michael Showalter ❤️ Although the last section drags, with a number of scenes which should either either have been deleted or shortened, this is still an enjoyable movie to watch., Sometimes funny sometimes sad… It’s good 🙂 Worth a watch. I’d recommend it if you like this genre 👍🏼 S Journalist Michael Ausiello embarks on a rollercoaster ride of emotions when Kit Cowan, his partner of 14 years, is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Brilliant. Loveable and... real. It's funny and deliciously cringy (the Smurfs). I laughed and cried a lot. I found it decidedly not cliché. Parsons is terrific without being cloying. Aldridge is perfect as the confused boyfriend. The music is tremendous. And that ending is quite brilliant. Thank you.
Beautiful movie! Definitely watch!
This flew under the radar but shouldn’t have. What a beautiful film and acting 🤍 It was Baby Reindeer before Baby Reindeer (another beautiful film).
I wept at several points in this movie. What a beautifully written, expertly acted love story. Jim Parsons absolutely nailed it in this film.
Its alright for the most part but it's overly talky and feels like some scenes are missing.
Profoundly moving without being sickly sweet. Jim Parsons is excellent and it was lovely to see Sally Fields.
Spoiler Alert is wonderful film that is both incredibly heartwarming and heartbreaking! It honestly and truthfully shows what a life of love is, with all of its ups and downs, and is one of those great must-see films! ❤️💔
I'm a little bit conflicted in calling the screen adaptation better than the book because a lot of the messy, hellishness and suffering depicted in the book never made it to the screen (assuredly for feel-good reasons) and they were what made the story very human. A lot of Michael's neurosis was sacrificed as well, though Jim Parsons was perfect for the role. All that being said though, it was Ben Aldridge as Kit that swings the film into the domain of superiority over the book. Aldridge brings the most authentically lovable gay character to this film and it's very heart wrenching to watch his journey (granted this may be owed to all the suffering depicted in the book that didn't make it into the film). I fell in love with Kit through Ben Aldridge and it made me empathize with Michael's damage and inferiority complex that much more to watch the tragedy of losing the love of his life when that love was the adorable Kit that Aldridge brought to the table. The film for all of its pacifying and tidying of the book's neurosis does a really good (condensed) job of bringing the love these two men shared, to the forefront of the story, even though it joins the legion of queer films where -spoiler alert- the hero dies.
Sooo saaaaaaaaaaaaad
I absolutely loved this movie, I laughed and cried (bawled my eyes out more like it) It is the best movie I've seen in years
Really enjoyed the movie and acting was above average. It was easy to follow and kept my interest throughout the whole movie. It was a good portrayal of a relationship through good and bad. Very well done.
The chemistry of the characters reflect how love can be beyond life and regardless if you're gay and in love. The actors played their part exceptionally portraying a true story of love. The movie was not cheesy nor forced. There were some moments that were fun, light, and sad and tragic… it simply reflected how life with love can be. Great but can also lead to beautifully painful goodbyes. It felt real.
A movie that will make you laugh and make you cry. Bye -bye now.
Started off as an interesting movie about dating on the 'other side' then regressed into one about disease, hospitals, and dying....no thank you.
This movie should have a trigger warning. Not life affirming and heart warming…. I watched it with a friend who currently has cancer and it triggered both of us enormously. Deeply upsetting
Delicate, light, heartbreaking and funny. Michael and Kit's story is a reminder to us all that you should celebrate life with the ones you love.
Based on Michael Ausiello's book, and ably adapted by David Marshall Grant and Dan Savage, Michael Showalter's tender and knowing indie drama is proficiently executed and touchingly acted by Jim Parsons and Ben Aldridge as the central gay couple. Essentially a gay Terms of Endearment (which the film is self-aware enough to name-check), it could've been a very conventional disease-of-the-week film with conventional (read: predictable) plotting but the application of some cute narrative devices, less conventional plot-turns, and a pair of charming cameo turns by Sally Field and Bill Irwin jazzed up the film, making it more amenable and a surprisingly lighter watch considering its subject matter. Of course, that was before I realized that it was all autobiographical and the events depicted actually happened. On a personal level, I find this a particularly resonating and emotional film but I think objectively speaking, this remains an effective and heartfelt film that many will also find poignantly moving.
