Star Trek Beyond Reviews

Mar 24, 2025

Canon in fandom is silly because it's fake. That said, you need to work within the storyline/continuity. "Star Trek Beyond" didn't. (And it's partially why a separate timeline, the Kelvin timeline, had to be created.)

I watched this movie 3 times and still have no clue what was it about. What was Krall intention and what he was getting out of it. I saw when he sucked the energy out of two people but when his second in command said you brought us this far , what he meant by that. Its fun to watch but not a movie that stays with you.

Cgi is very cgi, lots of noise running and jumping. Not much to differentiate it from lots of super hero stuff. Entertaining enough for one's ahead of the curve. A little samey and dull for the ones after. Tos still can't be beat.

A very enjoyable sequel to Star Trek Beyond and even when it steals a few scenes, such as the Enterprise-D crash but it was better made.

A Franchise Classic. This defintely has (though pretty standard) character development and it does feel more like a Star Trek film in the sense of exploring Sci-Fi ideas. It's noticeable and for those that are fans of the JJ Abrams action style it may turn them off somewhat here but this does have lots of action too. It finds a pretty good balance I think in that sense. The actin gis once again the most consistent thing with solid performances across the board. Save for the generic villian who was kind of a letdown I feel and reminded me of Apocalypse from X-Men. (Not a good thing) Editing and pacing were pretty balanced too and this does a better job as said before of mixing Star Trek type ideas, character expansion with the action that goes with the New Era Trilogy. Sometimes it does get a bit jumpy though going between Spock & the Doctor back to Kirk and Scottie. But it works well enough honestly. The biggest two issues are the music which is pretty much an exact copy of the last one and really just didn't stand out on it's own at all. It's not bad but defintely would've appreciated it's own thing more. The cinemaotgraphy also isn't bad but it's a bit of a step down I feel just because the direction isn't as good as JJ's. Sometimes things can feel pretty basic and this relies heavily on CGI. The battle scenes are borderline oversaturated with the stuff and it would feel nicer if models or more practical things were used. Despite arguably Into Darkness being the better made film from a fundamental perspective (Not a Star Trek Fan one) I honestly like this one a bit more though there pretty even. Despite not as strong direction and distinction, I like how it feels more like a Star Trek movie. Anyone who is a fan of the franchise especially the new trilogy, the director, any actors in this, or Sci-Fi should check this out. Great way to wrap a great trilogy.

Hands down the most Star Trek Kelvin film. Finally these films feel like proper Trek.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Worst of the JJ movies. Good casting / characters can't save terrible writing and ridiculous Avengers / super-hero style production. Stunt motorcycles and non stop ninja fighting? This isn't Star Trek. The earlier movies have some great moments but everything here is rushed, forced, and direction is Fast and Furious style and it shows - what a sad waste of the character talent they had. The critics reviews praising this are a joke...

I don’t care what anyone says I love this movie it’s so awesome and funny.

Given this is under different leadership, you'd be hard pushed to feel it. Kudos to the team for keeping it close to how the franchise started with its first two movies. The story is solid, the cast continue to deliver, and the whole thing is as enjoyable as the older siblings

Starts well but becomes totally lame and formulaic once they land on the planet. Somehow reminiscent of an episode of the original series in a bad way. The villain lacks believability and buying into his backstory is a huge stretch. The film just loses it and gets out of control in many ways after the decent introductory scenes. Hope the next film is better.

Die hard Star trek fan...thought the new actors and story definitely worth the watch

Into darkness is the best, then the original reboot... then this.

Don't get me wrong I like the star trek franchise. But the movie technology does not follow the time line of the enterprise and crew. The systems are far to advance. As a stand alone movie it's good. But just doesn't fit.

The story, the acting, the effects, and the way that it was filmed is really good!

The music of the Beastie Boys helps to defeat the bad guys. Enough said!

Its the only one of the Trek reboots I totally enjoy without serious reservations. It has a solid villain and feels like it is actually a part of the larger franchise.

This third installment takes us far beyond the final frontier! As the Enterprise attempts to answer a distress call, they end up stranded and hunted by the evil Krall as he plans to declare war against the Federation. Bringing all the characters into a no-holds barred battle is a perfect way to end this trilogy on a good note!

The weakest of the trilogy, but I still bought it three times over.

Technically better than the previous movie, but still a mediocre space opera wearing the IP like a serial killer in a skin suit made from his victims.
