Steel Magnolias Reviews
No words could describe my love for this film, not a single flaw. The cast was incredible and the overall movie was absolutely perfect. If you’re looking for a sad film, this is definitely the one for you, I’ve never cried the same way I cried at this movie! Julia Roberts once again amazes us with her outstanding performance as Shelby!
My favorite movie!! I love all the actors! 10/10
I think the story is sweet but the movie lost me when they threaten to cut off some guy's private area. couldn't finish the movie
I am shocked at the lower score it deserves a 97% atleast in my opinion!
Well acted and effective story, but is a bit forgettable and felt rushed at times.
A terrific movie all the way through. Made me laugh and cry.
A bit campy and with a surprisingly dramatic end but it is very well acted and has a lot of humor and heart along the way.
Steel Magnolias is my all time favorite movie. It's got an incredible all-star cast each turning in emotional, poignant performances.
Mark (he/his/him) I thought the critics nuts. This movie made me laugh and cry and was really fun. If your wife wants to watch a 'chick flick', like mine did when we picked this, this is a great movie.
This is my absolute #1 favorite movie of all time. I wish I knew how many times I have watched it. It's got to be close to a ga-gillion times. The bonds of family and friendship are amazing. I wish I had that bond and that sense of community.
Brilliant! Made me laugh. Made me cry. Made me sentimental. Made me think. It's a work of art!
I've seen this no less than a 100 times and love it each time. Such a great movie! Sally Field at the Funeral still is the best out there to date. You feel her pain. Dolly, Shirley and Olympia are amazing as usual.
Fantastic classic movie that's an absolute must watch.
This is a very dialogue heavy film - Dialogue and character focussed. It took a while to get a feel for the various characters. At first it seemed to me a bit too bitchy-ish/gossip centered, with the female characters clerly saying what they really think about other people, behind closed doors. However, I admit I did feel more interested in it after a while - there are some reasonably quick witted pieces of dialogue, mostly spoken by Dolly Parton (who plays Truvy Jones) and its clear that the women care a lot about each other, which is somehow re-assuring. Its part focussed/set in the very mundane, everyday situations and in a way that maybe makes it more relatable for some. I found the chronology a little confusing to follow - a text prompt would have helped with that. I also respected the way the various ladies pulled together as friends - this is a good film for depicting the value of a good friendship/social circle. There are some cliches present and it reminded me of 'Terms of Endearment' but its mostly a pleasant enough and even somewhat thoughtful film overall, which I suppose I would, at a push, recommend, if it sounds of interest to you, yes.
One of those movies you have to see!! Love Sally field always especially in this movie! also dolly is a star some parts seem unrealistic but such a good movie.
This classic comedy was pretty good. Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, and the rest of the cast did a pretty good job in this movie. The story of the movie was entertaining, humorous, and dramatic. It's about family and friends going through difficult times in their lives. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you may enjoy it. I didn't enjoy it very much, but others will say otherwise.
The six women of the film steal the show in Steel Magnolias with their terrific performances. masterfully shifting from comedy to drama to bring an emotional train ride while entertaining us with their top notch chemistry.
Just rewatched after a few decades. The charm of this movie lies entirely with the ladies - Field, MacLaine, Dukakis, Parton and Hannah. You can really see Julia Roberts, never a great actress in her early movies, working hard to keep up with the rest of the ladies. The story is cloying and annoying. That tragically bad wig nearly sinks the movie.
A true melodrama for the ages. A plot that is about female friendships & relationships is hard to find. Adding in a cast of terrific actors makes this a winner.
This film is timeless. It's a lot of laughs and a lot of tears. The best friendship between Ouiser and Clairee was written so well.
