Stronger Reviews
It just kinda didn't really have much to tell, the actors are doing a good job but I don't think the screenplay translated good from the book, so it left it very dull and honestly hard to watch…
Some ofJake Gyllenhaal's best. He was very convincing throughout. Good movie. Watch it!!!
This film rounds up the cinematic narrative depicting the Boston marathon bombing to a close as we examine prolific heroism that risen through the aftermath as a symbolically given hero, questioning granted reception that's only nurturing the trauma without much peace. How Jake Gyllenhaal embodies all that weight strengthens one of his best, most solid performances over the thematically ideal struggles in a sympathetic, more considerate direction as a humane reminder under peaceful advocation. (A-)
I had seen my mom watch this movie before when I was younger but I never watched it myself until last night. This movie was so well-done and heartbreaking. Jake Gyllenhaal outdid himself with this movie honestly. 10/10 would recommend and watch again.
3 & 1/4 stars. This movie was not filled with schmaltzy emotion, as I feared. It was realistic in showing the hero go from irresponsible & unproductive to face up to the hard work it will take to overcome the loss of both legs.
this movie made me really angry at it at times, but i think thats a good thing. jake gyllenhaal never fails, i love him in absolutely every movies he is in.
Just seeing this film; it is very deep; excellently portrayed by skilled craftspeople. A new surprise around every corner, it seemed--the character needed to get used to the situation and had several touching opportunities to do so. Brings the viewer right in and doesn't stop. Very tragic, but real.
This movie is a true story. We loved the entire presentation. The acting was superb and the story was very interesting. I think you'll like this one --check it out!
The film felt so realistic. A compelling true story, a solid screenplay, great dialogue, subtle and naturalistic performances, gorgeous cinematography, and wonderful direction. What else can you ask for in a film?
Excellent and good show.
What a powerfull and inspiring movie. At this point, can we just give Jake Gyllenhaal a freaking second oscar nomination, this guy is doing everything for it, he even lost a leg for it. No, but in all seriousness, Jake Gyllenhaal was incredible in this movie, i dont care what anybody says. Tatiana Maslany was so great in this movie as well, so sad that the movie kinda got ignored in awards season, because they should have gotten a lot more regonition for both their performances. The only thing that i would have liked better, was that the impact of the explosion was a bit more powerfull, it kinda was like, oh grab a bom exploded, the suspenion was missing. If we set that a side, this movie is perfect in my opinion. Sure it is an inspiration movie, but seeing how many people got their inspiration of Jeff, makes it still so much more powerfull. These are the kinda movies where you are thinking like, a man, what am i a lucky man for having this life, without any physical problems and without any really big problems in your life, which makes the message always so much stronger, especially in this case.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany shine as the leads of this film. They bring emotion, truth, and believability to the story. The direction of the movie is smooth yet suspenseful for what is to come. All the dialogue is believable and fitting for each scene and all the deliveries of the dialogue is correct and strong. The cinematography brilliantly compliments every other aspect of the film; tying everything together. This films succeeds on all fronts of its story. From the romance, to the family drama, to the emotions that would occur when someone had to go through a traumatic event such as this. Would recommend all around.
Stronger has a pretty powerful story, Jake Gyllenhaal's performance is great as always, and the writing is really good here too. Just like Patriots Day (2016), it goes through the Boston Marathon explosion, while I don't think this movie is as good as Patriots Day, it is a good story focusing on victims from the event.
Very boring. predictable and went on and on and on. Didnt like it. Wouldnt recommend it
Jake G just obliterates this role. The look in his giant frozen eyes in the moments where Jeff is silently riddled with anxiety (Bruins game) are so arresting that these moments help to overcome some of Stronger's more tedious sections. I think it might be a little easy to be cynical about the ending being overly sentimental, but that feels misplaced. The movie very handily shows Jeff's up and down journey to that point where he is then is ready to confront the moments in his life that are overwhelming in any sense of the term. The side characters do a mostly great job in their own right as well.
It ends on a pretty schmaltzy scene that is obviously just tugging on heartstrings but regarding the movie as a cohesive whole, David Gordon Green's triumph-through-tragedy biopic is fine storytelling featuring a great cast.
Well deserving of its praise and underserving of its critique. This is a feel-good film about a good person.
Well, as someone that is close to Boston, physically and emotionally, the bombings hit me just as hard as it did so many. Jeff's story is one that should be celebrated, and while I think this movie probably had the best intentions, the way it paints a "typical Boston family" is borderline absurd. The drunk, arguing, heavy fake-accented family detracts from what otherwise may be a very good movie, paying homage to somebody who suffered immensely in this senseless act.
Stronger is a quieter, more slowly paced depiction of what the aftermath of the marathon bombings were like thanks the talented Jake G's portrayal of the victim.
A very good movie with incredible performances, And I don't know much about Tatiana as an actress, but she should be considered for a nomination. Fantastic work here. Sometimes was on the verge of clichè stuff, but it worked its way out and felt genuine. Give a shot, you may shed a few tears.
