Suburbicon Reviews

Enjoyable with a few laughs

Not really boring but just not really well put together at all. I'm not sure what Clooney was going for here. A satire on middle class life? the 50's? Racial Relations? A Hitchcock mystery? All of the Above? Regardless it just never comes together at all. It's also very unfocused. Sometimes it's from the perspective of the boy, than the parents, than the racial relations, and sometimes a little of all of it. The music also plays nonstop and is way too overused. It's so boring and gets on your nerves. The lighting in this is very dull and lifeless as well. The acting is alright and is the one thing in this that isn't subpar but no one has any real chemistry. None of the dialouge is that snappy either. There isn't any tension at all in this either but it's somehow never boring either. Skip This. I really don't know what this is.

3 & 1/4 stars. This unusual film attracted me as I love the Coen brothers' writing. The plot follows hypocrites in their violence, hatred, selfishness & ignorance. The most amusing part was the son walking in on paddling of step-mom/aunt.

A soup sandwich from beginning to end.

This flick is pretty awesome. Mostly cuz all the right people get the axe in the end, well, minus the kids uncle

I can't believe the low ratings for this movie. It was spot on when it comes to the American Con from all. They weren't mean, it was just another day in that decade. It isn't the caliber of Fargo, but it has some of the same humor at how silly humans can be when they pursue what they perceive as happiness. What a mess.

Just fabulous. Great entertainment. As good as anything by the Coen Brothers.

This film was well written, cast and directed. I loved the juxtaposition of this peaceful town (for white people that is) against the unnecessarily hostile and ignorant townspeople. They're complete inability to look past their own self-righteous interests and idiotic racism lead to a horrific series of murders going pretty much unnoticed. The once picturesque people unleash their true colours upon an innocent black family for merely existing while admonishing themselves for their backward, racist, inbred behaviour, while the family carry themselves with grace and grit in a realm so beyond any townspersons small-minded comprehension. I wish we got to see more of the black family's dynamics behind closed doors however the budding little friendship provided relief in otherwise tense scenes and his relationahip with his uncle, brought a tear to me, I sincerely hope he just passed out from pain or loss of blood and actually survived...which would be ideal for me. The end provided much needed satisfaction after the justified killing of Twinny the Ho-Bag and the well-deserved death of Daddy D*ckhead. Brilliant job by George Cloony...I would like a sequel of some kind. It seems some of the critics entirely missed the point of the film and its no surprise why...they probably spotted themselves in the violent, hysterical mob, wouldve remained silent in supermarkets or related to the speakers on the radio or 온라인카지노추천 scenes. These people hate a crystal clear window of themselves, their parents, their grandparents put up for them to look through... It's the same reason why they don't want CRT taught in schools....You can bend feelings, ban books and block new methods but you can't do that to a learned fact. I hope my review, severely pisses someone off :)

This movie is the literal definition of catfishing, the beginning is the polar opposite to the end/rest of the movie

"Suburbicon" boasts plenty of great ideas and has a star studded cast, unfortunately all of this gets muddled in the films execution.

I like how it was a mystery but not so mysterious. Satire well done.

George Clooney is trying to do a Huck Finn here, in which the black people are well-meaning, good folks and the whites are all despicable. Noah Jupe as Nicky is the Huck Finn figure. Unfortunately, the black family is not well developed. The father doesn't even have any lines. It's a messy, incongruous film, with its awkward mix of 1950's satire, horrendous crime, and a message about racism. Oscar Isaac's brief performance as the suspicious insurance investigator is the best thing in it. The Coen brothers wrote the script back in the 1980s but never did anything with it. That tells you something.

I liked the movie .. I don't see too many problems ..

Total misfire from George Clooney, who has turned out to be an incredibly uneven director. His recent Netflix film, The Tender Bar, was terrific, as was The Ides of March, but Clooney has also done Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and that forgettable sci-fi flick, the name of which I can't even recall. When he fails, I inevitably ask, "what was he thinking?" as the films are so weak, yet when he scores, it's a big win. He's the kind of guy you can't help but root for, but this film is tiresomely boring, as it can't decide which of the three genres it wants to be... murder mystery, dark comedy or civil rights flick. Seriously, how the hell did this happen? He's a smart, talented guy. But this one flies off the rails, even when Oscar Isaac appears. Just skip it.

Clone of Fargo. The racial side story is cheesy. Excellent work of actors.

I don't believe the critics understood the message behind the movie. I think I found it interesting because the black family becomes the main focus of the town, everybody is so worried about a black family living in their neighbourhood they forget to look out for what is actually the problem. It's like mocking white americans who focus so heavily on the black community and how they are an "abomination" (which we smart people know we all bleed red) whilst behind the closed doors of white households a lot worse tends to happen. If you have actual social understanding you'll enjoy the movie. If you are watching a movie for entertainment, you may enjoy it or may not

Let me see if I can summarize... Everyone in idyllic 1950s white America is hopelessly racist, self-serving, murderous, duplicitous, and two-faced. Black people want to live here. There are some VERY brief moments of suspense near the end, but nothing can save this train wreck of a movie. Worse than 'Elysium'.

………………………………………………………………………. A relentless demolition of the American dream Abstract: Suburbicon is a new, low-rise, garden neighborhood from the late 1950s in the US where a certain urban middle class has moved in search of its touted tranquility and security. Little Nicky Lodge (Noah Jupe, the notable actor from A Quiet Place and The Undoing) lives there with his parents Rose and Gardner (Julianne Moore and Matt Damon). After an African-American family moves into the house next to hers, an unexpected series of family incidents begins. With this remarkable drama (whose title Suburbicon probably alludes to Lovecraft's Necronomicon), that slides into a thriller with hints of black comedy, George Clooney proceeds to a relentless and at times bizarre demolition of the American dream and family. ………………………………………………………………… Review: Suburbicon is a new, low-rise, garden neighborhood from the late 1950s in the US where a certain urban middle class has moved in search of its touted tranquility and security. After the prologue with the new black neighbors moving, the film focuses on the Lodge family and an incident they suffer shortly after, setting in motion a typical Cohen thriller, with characters making bad decisions, outbursts of humor fierce, despicable characters and the sinister and violence taking over everything. The film initially recreates the aesthetics and tone of the melodrama of the 50s and then darkens and darkens the story, supported by Alexander Desplat's great "vintage" soundtrack, the performances, which give the right tone and Hitchcockian touches. A sort of counterpart to Far from Paradise by Todd Haynes (reinforced by the presence in both of Julianne Moore). With this remarkable drama (whose title Suburbicon probably alludes to Lovecraft's Necronomicon), sliding into thriller with hints of black comedy, George Clooney proceeds to a relentless and at times bizarre demolition of the American dream and family, transforming them into a nightmare. ……………………………………………………………………….

This was the worst movie I have ever seen. Honestly, George Clooney should NOT be allowed to direct. ever. In fact, I think Clooney (the clown) owes me 2hrs. Why do we believe that just because one is an actor, that apparently they can do everything? Like, Arnold Schwarzenegger in politics - disaster. This movie was so shit, I am actually pissed off. I am so surprised that no one else working on this project - from writing to release - had the balls to tell George just how terrible this is. I have never written a movie review before, this proves had annoyed I am.
