I live for movies like this! And this is brilliant, poignant , perfectly directed, and profoundly well acted. Of course, it is sat in the most dramatic period of history… World War II, but it succeeds in deserving its place among great films from that period .. Top recommendation!

I thoroughly enjoy the movie on several level. The comings and goings of the German occupation of Bussy were far more realiistic than most movies of the genre. The acting was superb. And the relationships gripping. If you haven't seen this movie yet, don't let the numbers in the rating turn you away. I thinkt hat too many just wanted more guts and blood. That's not the. It's a romance, in many ways wrapped around a bit of history and a touch of man's inhumanity to man.

A nice stereotypical love war story.

Loved the haunting nature of this film. There was just enough character development to create a connection but not so much that it was drudgery. Many actors struggle to find sweet spot with subtle acting that still allows for deep emotional undertones, and I am happy to say this was not an issue in this film. I found it captivating while yes, at times, hard to watch due to the obvious war theme. The reality of the dark historical backdrop was critical to allowing a natural contrast to present with sweet yet doomed romance. And was it really doomed given the ending? It depends on our definition of what this love's success was. This stuck with me for days after watching.

I absolutely love this film! Forbidden passion is so sexy! Aside from the love story it also asks questions about how can you separate the person from the soldier? Made nazis human. And gave me an insight into the complexity of the situation those girls were in...collaborator or traitor or brave or just trying to save themselves?

A beautiful love story begins to enfold amidst war, tragedy, and betrayal, and then abruptly it ends and I was like, "wait! What? What just happened? Did I miss something?" But, alas, I did not. Society missed something, or rather the 11 million or so people who died in the Holocaust. Acted superbly, shot beautifully, depicted tenderly, and then... it's over. The pain, though expected, is still unexpected.

5/12/2019 It was the most unlikely time to fall in love, what with the raging starts of the war marching into the commune of Bussy, France. But the attraction between a French woman, who was left in the cares of her stern mother-in-law, and a German army lieutenant was the only thing that made sense during this time. An all-star female ensemble highlighted this period romance.

A must see romantic movie , if you loved the Notebook or Titanic this would be a love story that goes on the records and the cast...oh my goodness!

a reasonably polished film, the romance is very subtle though, and the script just drifts along until we reach the end. only so-so for me.

I can see how this kind of story would happen in the midst of war. Love the main characters.

Odd why the critics fawned over this on release, I haven't read the source novel but even flicking through the Wiki summary it seems this has done it a grave disservice. The story has been reduced to cliche, a French set story populated exclusively by characters with clipped upper class English accents and a clunky Mills and Boon central romance. I was bored by the end, and would rather give the book a try.

I am not a great fan of romantic movies but i enjoyed this one, it's very well acted and directed. Not the most original story, but it caught my attention. It's the little story of two normal people on the (very distant) background of the great story of WWII.
