Supergirl Reviews
'Supergirl' is a second straight dud from this franchise, though I'd honestly say it's ever so slightly more interesting than the preceding 'Superman III'; it at least tries to tell a coherant story around its main character, which can't exactly be said for the aforementioned. Helen Slater is decent as Supergirl, any complaints with the character lie with how she is written rather than how she is portrayed by Slater. The best part of this movie, for me, is actually Faye Dunaway. Selena isn't necessarily a plus, though I think Dunaway's performance held potential. Peter O'Toole has a small part to play, nice to have an actor like him involved - on a similar note, it's a shame Christopher Reeve turned down a cameo, not that you could blame him of course. All in all, this is a disappointing movie. A shorter run time might've helped, fwiw.
Screw Y'all's reviews this is a classic gem! Way better than the new crap nowadays!!!
It camp and cheesy but this is what makes this film a cult classic. Helen Slater is great as Supergirl and Faye Dunaway is a classic villain. The movie has some plotholes but it's a product of its time. Take it at face value and you won't be disappointed.
Even the towering talents of O'Toole and Cook couldn't save this tonally uneven, amateurish nonsense which says it all really. I remember watching this on its release in the cinema and even then wondering how they could have gotten it so badly wrong. However, having recently rewatched this it's actually worse than I remembered it being. About on a par with the atrocious Superman IV - Quest for peace in the DC scheme of things. To her credit, Slater's Supergirl is likeable and she certainly looks the part but it's still one of the worst Superhero movies ever made and a massive missed opportunity. There's precious little girl power on show here.
Brilliant movie. One of my all time favourites! Those of you who didn't like it, probably use expected a superman clone. Happy to disappoint.
Why bother go through the trouble if you're going to make a parody of a superhero movie?
worse than Superman 3 or 4
Not sure why there is so much hate for this film. Helen Slator is the quintessential Super Hero, pitched against Selena, played by Faye Dunaway. The result its a romp as camp as Christmas but thoroughly entertaining.
This movie is SO bad, but this is the movie that made me love Supergirl. Because of this movie I have read a TON of Supergirl comics and watched the 온라인카지노추천 series. Definitely a guilty pleasure.
Not better than the first two Superman movies. Though maybe better than Superman 3-4. Helen Slater makes are beautiful and likable Supergirl. The movie just has a silly villain, dull love interest and a weak plot. Slater definitely gives it her all though and the musical score may not be John Williams but it has a charm to it.
I watched this movie on HBO and I turn on the 온라인카지노추천 having no expectations & I wasn't so impressed by a few reasons but other than those few reasons I give it a passing grade. Action, there wasn't so much action I would have liked it because this movie focuses on telling the characters story like the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie but since there was no 2nd movie I can't give action a passing grade. Acting, I think the acting was great but for only a few characters. CGI, for the most part the CGI was great for the time but it's the final show down that had terrible CGI. Villain, I didn't like them they were so childish and so immature and not evil. Writing I think it was ok it could have been better but I like it a bit. Story wasn't so different than the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie. Plot, for the most part was bad I didn't like it but in some acts it was good. Casting, I think that the casting is great but for some characters only. Characters, I liked most of them I think that Lana Lane could have been a better written character but other than that I liked all of them. Ending I liked it I think it was good it wasn't bad.
I don't exactly hate it, but it isn't good and possibly bad.
The practical effects were really fun! I liked the bits and pieces of Supergirl's characterization from the comics. It was really cheesy but still enjoyable. I will be watching it again.
Whilst there are some early laughs to be had at the atrocious sets and corny, even by the standards of the day, special effects, this is a brain-flayingly awful film. The story is setup by a clearly drunk Peter O'Toole who phones in a bizarre performance, quickly supplemented by a frighteningly wired looking Peter Cook having a picnic with the bludgeoningly hammy Faye Dunaway. A magic yoyo lands in their Taramasalata and Helen Slater emerges dry from a lake before performing a sky ballet. I could go on. But it honestly doesn't get any better or less confusing. This is a sexist, in places creepy and voyeuristic, patchwork of a film that should never have seen light of day. Avoid.
aburrida y decepcionante comparada con las primeras de superman malos efectos y poco presupuesto a lo q no le ayuda su bajo guion
Terrible All Around...Not one redeeming quality. The acting is clueless by the two leads or over the top ridiculous by Faye Dunway or really strange by O'Toole. The cinematography is cheap, out of place, terribly shot many times with bizarrely out of place special effects most of the time with ok/good ones 20% of the time. The music isn't good as its over the top and feels out of place because the action is so bizarre that's on screen already even without it, it just makes it even worse most of the time though by itself its ok if that makes sense. The editing & pacing are awful., things just happen a lot of times like mountains appearing, were unsure of the villains motives, and a cohesive story really is never told until the end when she gets the power source back but mostly everything else that happened in between contributes nothing to it. The worst thing is Supergirl's development is she starts out as clueless and is still clueless at the end. Stay away from this no matter what.
There are some great actors in this film and pretty good special effects for the time the film was released. Sadly the plot is nonsensical and the dialog is pretty bad as well. There is also a really stupid love story I can tell was shoed in at the last minute.
The main value of this film is as an historical curiosity, for people who are into the DC and Kryptonian stories. The best thing I can say is it isn't terrible. Helen Slater makes a decent Supergirl, even if the rest of the cast seems to be reading lines. Easily Faye Dunaway's worst, as she shows up for a paycheck.
I am actually someone who finds this film very endearing and entertaining to watch. I understand the various flaws this film comes with, but am able to see the heart behind it that was put into the making of it. As well as the conscientious efforts to link this film the Christopher Reeve's Superman.
When you look back at the 80's, when Christopher Reeve was at his peak of fame as Superman, this film was released. The biggest problem with this film was lazy writing and making. Instead of making an epic Super hero movie, they spoiled it into a teenage silly story for kids. After three decades, we know how far we have moved forward in making super hero movies.
