A Slooooow tedious movie.....Hard to follow the story line/plot. A number of illogical plot/story lines. Characters Unrelatable. Total Crap!

The movie mostly works as a limited story. The acting is very good but the story did not totally grab me. It was ok overall.

Unwatchably slow. Nothing happens for entire minutes. It's like an ADHD test that no one can possible pass. Sam Neil, as always, is great as are the unknown actors but Bryan Brown is so over the top. Cringey. Trust me on this, I don't care what the critics say, this movie is a BORE

This is a bleak and harsh watch, with a very rural setting - a somewhat unforgiving one, you could say. There are plenty of scenes with little dialogue and when there is dialogue, most of it (not all but a lot) consists of shouting from white men towards the aborigines. I certainly felt sorry for the natives, the way they were (badly) treated - indeed it made me feel curious to learn more about them and their culture. The cinematography is pretty impressive and overall its a good watch, so I'd recommend it on that basis, as long as your ok with subtitles, as there are quite a lot of them, due to the Aboriginal language spoken by natives.

Sweet Country is sometimes hard to watch. It is a realistic take on Australian life in the Outback. The ugly racism and violence against the Aboriginals portrays a country where the white man's word is law. Even so I loved this movie. The acting is superb. Hamilton Morris as Sam Kelly is brilliant. Bryan Brown who I loved In A Town Like Alice played a flawed and ruthless Australian Sergeant. Scenes of the Australian Outback are stunning.

I learned nothing about the Aboriginal culture, but for the 3000th time that the colonial authorities were bad and Jesus was good. The slow pace shows the pointlessness of many scenes.

Truly Heartbreaking ,To know it is a true story is even more upsetting. If in justice is not recorded. How can things ever change

Story about injustices against Aboriginal people, artistically told and depicted, but far too slow.

I LOVED IT! I want to find more movies like it. Sorry I am not a professional reviewer. I felt really involved in the movie. The action was like "real" people. It was in turns frustrating. I was frustrated with the displacement of the Aborigine people by the White man. I was frustrated by Philimac. The movie made me think of slavery-time America. I was frustrated by Sam and his wife not feeling able to testify on their own behalf but accepting blame and shame for what happened. Yet, all of that frustration I felt made me feel the movie was believable action(s). I nearly shot through the roof at the final scene. Great Movie!

I liked it. I thought it was well done. I agree that it lacks emotional impact of individual characters but it’s a bigger picture/message.

Enjoyed the scenery as always, the Australian landscape is brilliantly captured in this film. The relentless brutality and stupidity of the whitefellers moves the film into the realm of propaganda and in my option diminishes its overall affect. Still this film is well worth the effort.

It's an Australian Western and a darn good one. Based on a series of true events, 'Sweet Country' feels real and that's an odd way for an American to feel about a movie filmed on the other side of the planet. Beautifully framed by Warwick Thornton. It's Law & Order: Australia circa 1920s. The way race is dealt with here is very interesting and not straight forward. There is certainly a lot of nuance and shades of grey in tales like these. Thornton took a chance on several natives and non-actors and does it ever pay off. Authentic, heartwarming, tragic, and so much more packed into a really nice film. Final Score: 7.9/10

While not trying to hide its message, still lacks a bit of the expected emotional impact.

Exceptional photography and visuals and an australian western story. I don't get the strange foreshadowing editing, though.

Powerful and harrowing Australian drama with some terrific performances especially from indigenous cast. Beautiful cinematography of Aussie outback scenery set the tone for this rough yet poignant story.

It is brutal. And, also brilliant.

Sweet Country is a modern day Australian classic. A searing document of history handled with great expertise and craft. Set in 1920s Northern Territory it is based on true life events. The story of an Indigenous man accused of murder, wrongfully. It is a harsh, unsparing film but also one of devastating beauty. Thanks to amazing cinematography by director Warwick Thornton. The outback of Australia has never looked better. Thornton has also constructed a story that shines a light on the harshness of outback life and the stark reality of indigenous life. It's not a world of rose coloured glasses. It's authentic tho the bone. It's also a pleasure to the see the great Bryan Brown and Sam Neill on our screens but also special mention to the dignified performance of Hamilton Morris. This is an important Australian film.
