Swingers Reviews
This is the most accurate breakup movie of all time. Shot totally from the POV of the main character Mikey and his level of self esteem. Anyone who has had to get out there after a hard breakup should watch this. It's also a beautiful film about male friendship and helping your buddy realize how money he is.
I don’t know how this is so highly rated. The dialect and plot is absolutely horrible. I never wanted to hear the word “baby” again after making it through this 90s cringe fest.
Swingers makes you miss movies that were made just for the sake of being made. Not much happens but that’s the charm of it all. Funny, poignant and charming. An easy watch.
Probably my favorite movie of all time. The story-line is deeper than you might initially think. Anyone that has gone through a difficult break-up will understand this film.
The coolest movie ever made
Just watched, it's been a while. A young Favreau and Vaughn, what's not to love. Great Movie and always wondered why they didn't make a few more, just this and Made.
Not meant to be deep. Guy can't get over girl. His buddies try snapping him out of it, but time heals all wounds... and a night of swinging.
Everything from the avant garde style, casting, dialogue was great!
Absolutely hilarious!
Has anyone seen ‘Hangin with the Homeboys’? Well Swingers is my second favorite “guys hangout” movie. Classic.
Been thinking of seeing this one for years. Should've kept it at that. Did nothing for me. The Favreau character was annoying as hell the whole way through, while Vaughn was.....Vaughn. At least young obnoxious Vaughn. Still don't find the guy that funny. Livington wasn't much, either. The whole breakup-go-to-Vegas thing has been done much better. 2.7 stars
Get ready, get set and prepare to get swinging! As a mild-mannered comedian struggles to get over his past relationship, his womanizing best friend decides to give him the time of his life by showing him the ropes of picking up chicks, leading to a riotous good-time. Bolstered by the chemistry of the two co-leads, this film is a positive reminder of what it means to feel alive and be alive!
I Dont Understand Why People like this movie so much it was boring as hell and hardly any laughs and it just felt mindless and the story was going nowhere i was very dissapointed thumbs down
Pretty entertaining. Didn’t have the climax’s I thought it should have bud still entertaining and funny. You can tell Vaughn and Favreau are still finding their acting styles
Perfect buddy comedy movie and made me want to discover speakeasy type bars and hangouts. So much about this is fantastic and I still quote Ron Livingston's optimistic "get there" when he massively under hits hiss putt. I love the realization at the end when Jon Favreau finally puts his life into perspective - it gives us all hope.
Swingers has undeniable charm and low-budget appeal, as well as an authenticity that stems from the fact that many scenes were filmed without actual extras, instead just having the main characters mingle with actual partygoers. Several things prevented me from loving it though, the main issues being an abundance of rambling conversations, something that I almost always find annoying. I understand the need to capture realistic dialogue and interactions between characters, but some of them go on for such absurd periods of time that you completely lose interest in what's being said. I've never been a Vince Vaugh fan, since his biggest fan often appears to be himself, and he's playing the same loudmouth, overbearing douchebag that he usually plays, so there wasn't much to sway me this time round. Jon Favreau plays a character so whiney and neurotic that he's also difficult to like, but he does have a very believable character arc, and when he's not endlessly pining for his ex, he can be a very enjoyable presence. The film's principal positives are its naturalistic feel and empathetic look at struggling actors in the big city. It won't answer the question of why people with no apparent job are able to afford so many drinks on a night out, but it did introduce the world to a wealth of future talent, and for that, I'd says it's worth checking out.
I revisited this movie again just today. Still a great movie with heart and humour. Man! That phone call. I couldn't watch Michael make those multiple voice mails at 2:40 in the morning due to second hand embarrassment! I literally fast forwarded!
Friendship and brotherhood does come across on the screen but generally underwhelming based on the amount of hype this movie gets. Maybe the accolades come from the fact that many actors can relate to the experiences of these guys. Early Vaughn in his element is fun and the launching of Favreau's career in the industry but off screen is important for the coming decades. A nice, tidy run time is a mark in its favor.
