ok movie but it is disappointing and confusing
This movie is so stupid it's fun. This was a bad time for movies and every movie was trying to be The Rock. So over the top and campy. Crap, but crap that came from a puppy.
A good movie that was released at the wrong time, whether it's the plot twist, the cast, or the special effects, is a commercial blockbuster that is 100% worth watching. Unfortunately, it was released just before 9/11. It led to a significant box office crash.
The stuffed shirt critics tore SWORDFISH to pieces over arrogantly technical movie making BS and, there's a lot of the same from wannabe critics (but clueless) audience members. In their bloated mentality, both have ignorantly forgotten the reason for movies, which is the overall STORY and →ENTERTAINMENT factor (THE VERY PURPOSE OF BOOKS AND MOVIES). The storyline and entertainment value for SWORDFISH is definitely 4 star for TERRIFIC storyline, casting, direction, acting and editing (all shortcomings be damned).
Not as dated as I thought a 2001 film about hacking would be, this film turns out to be a fun popcorn flick full of action.
The green filter , so trendy at the time its aged badly. Disjointed plot hard to follow , loosing your attention. Some fun moments but not great overall
...here John Travolta returns; and me as a viewer am reminded again of a conundrum 🤔 Is this guy undercover? On a weird-ass riff of the danger-bus and bomb scenario...why does the bus look like a macro thing from...Tron? Anyhow, what does that matter? Jackman gets to rescue his daughter from her (better-off?) porn-star mom...
The only reason to possibly watch this movie is if you want to see Halle Berry doing naked stuff. The rest of the movie is unbelievable and dumb.

This movie was awesome! Is it unbelievable.....of course. Is the story line disjointed......it sure is. But you don't go into this movie thinking it is adapted from a real life story. It has an amazing soundtrack (If you are familiar with Paul Okenfold), awesome action scenes, and a great twist. If you are looking for a fun movie then you've found your guilty pleasure.

Breakout action flick for Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman and then allready known veteran John Travolta. Good pacing, story with huge plotholes, but a fun watch in all
Yeah, hard to follow the plot of this movie, but that's the point, "misdirection" he said.
This is the definition of All Sizzle But No Steak....This was Bad. The acting is just ok despite all the big name stars in it. No one really has any chemistry or charm to any of the characters even the main guy. The cinematography is ok with over the top action scenes, and pretty to look at scenes that please the eye but don't have any substance to them or meaning. The music is bland and generic. The editing and pacing is bad. Scenes go on way too long, scenes that have no point to moving the story along and are just eye candy, and the plot just gets more ridiculous and answers questions by getting more ridiculous. It becomes less and less suspenseful and more frustrating as it goes on. The biggest strike against this is the ridiculous bad plot. It makes no sense and tries to add substance by adding explosions, girls and over the top scenes that are more laughable than shocking. It makes you think its going to all make sense in the end and shock you but never does. It's all very shallow. Very Disappointing. Skip This Mess Completely.
Protagonista tra i più deboli che il cinema d'azione hollywoodiano abbia mai creato. Hugh Jackman alla peggiore interpretazione della carriera, impietoso il confronto con John Travolta, ed inoltre poco interessante la costruzione del personaggio, ex galeotto dal cuore d'oro facilmente ricattabile per amor della figlia; estremamente noioso e prevedibile. La trama è poco chiara, non si comprende minimamente cosa spinge i protagonisti a compiere quel tipo di azioni. Il finale poi è assolutamente senza senso; si cerca il colpo di scena a tutti i costi, ma non c'era lo spazio ed un'adeguata preparazione. Pessimi anche gli effetti per la maggior parte del film.
Going into the film Swordfish, honestly, I wasn't expecting much more then a mindless action film with a barely believable premise. I was not entirely wrong as the film does focus a lot of big shoot outs and explosions and other superficial things to keep the viewer interested. It at least held my attention and had just enough of a plot to keep the film moving forward and only a few major characters with little backstory and development. The film is directed by Dominic Sena, who also directed Gone in 60 Seconds. While it isn't significantly better, it at least uses its characters and doesn't waste talent, like the previously mentioned. Here Halle Berry isn't left with nothing to do and the bare minimal lines like Angelina Jolie. The plot is quite absurd and takes many liberties in its characters and their abilities with a seemingly unbeatable boss (John Travolta) who is always several moves ahead. Hugh Jackman plays an expert computer hacker who, after being arrested and locked up, loses his girl when his ex-wife moves on with someone else. His ex-wife has serious substance issues and the new man is a porn producer of all things, leaving his daughter to fend for herself. He wants nothing more then to get her back and he is willing to do anything to get her back and that is where our film begins. While computer hacking isn't that interesting to watch, the film at least balances it out with super unrealistic expectations and violence thrown in to keep the viewer interested. You can certainly do worse then Swordfish, but also much better, as it really doesn't leave a lasting or meaningful impression once the credits have rolled. I believe as long as your expectations are tempered before going in, it will make for a passable viewing experience.
Although it's overall plot and direction is questionable, even baffling at times, Swordfish is one of the best action movies of the 00s. Jackmans character is a bit boring at times, but Travolta keeps the audience on edge.
