Tales of Halloween Reviews

Lots of different stories that were mostly stupid and poorly acted but some were funny enough to entertain

This anthology really gets off to a strong start. Barbeau starts the proceedings as a radio DJ - an obvious nod to her role in THE FOG 35 years earlier - and her memorably husky voice is heard throughout the movie. The first couple segments are rather effective, and I was particularly tickled to see the first one take place in Haddonfield, IL. Horror nuts will immediately recognize this as the city from the HALLOWEEN franchise. Sadly, the early promise disintegrates quickly, with many of the segments not making any sense whatsoever and seemingly existing simply to come up with new and inventive ways of killing off their characters. I often enjoy anthology movies, but fitting 10 short stories into 97 minutes is pushing it. Rotten Tomatoes has a 77% critical approval rating for this one, so apparently there's something I'm missing. But the audience approval is only 41%, so that makes me feel a bit better. If everything else were as strong as the first 20 minutes, I'd give this a hearty recommendation. Unfortunately this is a snowball going downhill if I ever saw one.

An awesome Halloween horror movie not as good as Trick 'r Treat but still really good

Such a great piece for Halloween. The short stories had a way of bringing me back to Halloween as a child.. There is also a lot of dark humor which offsets the gore. .

Very interesting. Stories ran together, at times comical. Definitely would recommend if you want light but something to keep you guessing as well.

An American Werewolf in London) Joe Dante (dir. Gremlins; The Howling) Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator) Pollyanna McIntosh (Walking Dead) James Duval (Penance) Pat Healy (The Innkeepers) Adam Green (Hatchet) Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes) Stuart Gordon (dir. re-animator) Mick Garris (dir. Sleepwalkers) Marc Senter (Devil's Carnival) Kristina Klebe ( Rob Zombie's Halloween ) Keir Gilchrist (dark summer) Clare Kramer ( Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Jose Pablo Cantillo (Walking Dead) John Savage (Carnivale) Caroline Williams ( The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) Ten connected tales about Halloween wrapped in comedy and horror. One of the better horror anthologies out there and you'll recognize many of the players. I mention what works they did before this movie as they're virtually all either horror icons or have done horror movies. Lots of dark humor, some silliness, and some jump scares. Recommended.

It was pretty good! I put it on thinking it was going to be more of a campy movie, or more like Goosebumps. It was a bit bloodier than expected in that regard & more, I would say, like Creepshow. It was fun though!

Yeah, it is surely an amateurish work but it has lots of good ideas in it. And I liked the basis. A town goes gonzo every Halloween. Lots of freaky shit happens every time. Even though it is amateurish work, some of the shorts have pretty good stories. Like the monster-face kid who was kidnapped by idiots and killer pumpkin was fun to watch. Also, the movie is not bewaring using violence which makes the movie better. Kids killing adults, monsters killing kids, lots of gory stuff. Yeah, it was a fun movie.

A great anthology for halloween, occasional misfire on a story but overall this is a good movie with rewatch potential.

It was kind of comical to be honest. It wasn't really scary. It was more of a comedy so to speak.

This was the worst "halloween" anthology I've ever seen. The writing was garbage, effects were garbage, they somehow managed to work in lame tropes into every episode. Just a terrible burning dumpster fire of a movie.

I only seen this movie once and I think that I might watch this movie again. It started out really strong and kinda got slow throughout. It reminded me of the movie Treat R' Treat or maybe Creepshow, or one of those old horror movies that have little story segments throughout it. Kinda a tip of the hat to the older horror movies. Some of the stories were good, some not so good, and one about a older couple on Halloween. One is a witch, and the other Hansel from the fairytale, she can't have kids so she abuses the partner and tries to eat the kids that treat or treat. Then she ends up killing him, sorry for the spoiler, kinda slow but passes the time. Not the best movie I ever seen, but also not the worst 2 stars.

Not as good as Trick r Treat, but a decent anthology film to get you in the Halloween mood. The best part was the cameos -a few horror legends appear.

10+ Halloween tales provide a welcome (albeit mixed) variety but a connecting theme is solely missed.

One of the best Halloween movies ever. A collection of eerie, scary stories.

10 Halloween short movies. All comedy horror. Most of them pretty good. Fun to watch during the season.

Overall 3 stars out of 5 - decent effort. Would have benefited from more twist endings, and more horror and less comedy. Detailed scores for each of the 10 stories as follows: Sweet Tooth: 3.5 (Good) The Night Billy Raised Hell: 1 (Bit ridiculous) Trick: 4 (Hard hitting, tense and clever twist) The Weak & The Wicked: 1 (Predictable) Grim Grinning Ghost: 4.5 (Tense) Ding Dong: 2 (Too wacky) This Means War: 1.5 (Too daft) Friday the 31st: 3.5 (Cute alien) The Ransom of Rusty Rex: 4.5 (Clever) Bad Seed: 2 (too comical)

I made it through about 40 minutes of "Tales of Halloween" when I just gave up. Some irreverent humor, a lot of gore and blood, but few real scares. I think the shortcoming with "Tales of Halloween" is that when doing a vignette film such as this, the clips have to be a bit more than just 10 minutes each or pack a real wallop, which these don't. Give it a pass.

This flick does not deserve to bear the name "Halloween." I didn't even finish all of it, it just kept getting worse and worse.

Most of the storys are good and fun but some are bad
