Tank Girl Reviews
In bringing to life the comic book of the same name by Alan Martin & Jamie Hewlett, Talalay incorporates bombastic action, cartoon violence, a bold color palette, and even traditional hand drawn animation into a unique world all its own.

Tank Girl posit that when a civilization collapses, many of its customs will be upheld through authoritarian means, shorn of any patina of justice or equity that may have been affirmed through the sanctioning of the democratic event.

I found it entertaining in a pleasingly odd way.

The movie is hyperactive and generally a lot of fun, with a kick-ass soundtrack supervised by Courtney Love and imaginatively cluttered production design by Catherine Hardwicke.

Tank Girl failed critically and commercially, a badge of honor for a mid-90s postapocalyptic-feminist-punk carnival

Courtney Love coordinates the film's soundtrack, which only adds fuel to film's frenetic fire.
| Original Score: 1.5/4.0 | Sep 25, 2020
Partly rebellious, partly playful, but mostly an irreverent, chaotic take on non-supernatural superheroes, it sacrifices entertainment value for hyperstylized originality.
| Original Score: 3/10 | Sep 24, 2020
With climate change going unchecked and drinking water shortages abounding, 'Tank Girl' predicted a totally possible post-apocalypse scenario.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 21, 2020
It may not be great art but it still makes its presence felt.

Add an Iggy Pop cameo, an unconventional storytelling style, and a unique stylized look, and you've got a comic-book movie unlike any that came out back then, nor much like the many that have followed in the more than two decades since its release.

Utimately the film is more a symptom than a prophecy of dystopia.

[UPDATED 2024 4K + BLU-RAY REVIEW] Talalay's hyper direction and Petty's hyper performance result in migraines; you also get Ice-T as the most antagonistic of the Rippers and Iggy Pop in a fleeting cameo as a pervert with a penchant for 10-year-old girls.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Apr 18, 2014
The 'counterculture zeitgeist' vibe seems rather silly, more Sherwood Schwartz than Riot Grrrl, and not in a good way.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jan 6, 2014
Lori Petty does her tough-talking best to breathe some life into the comic-book action, but it's not enough.
| May 3, 2013
Unfunny, often painfully boring, and so blatantly low budget and poorly constructed...
| Mar 21, 2013
An aspiring cult film that would rather be cute than dangerous.
| Original Score: C- | Jul 6, 2010
Ultimately, I had a lot more fun at this movie that I did at Batman Forever.
| Sep 3, 2009
The movie version of the graphic comic book is a classic case of kitchen-sink filmmaking, in which the principals have thrown everything into the stew, hoping enough will stick to the audience.

How well you'll tolerate this utterly unhinged quasi-feminist comic book fantasy depends on your Lori Petty threshold.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Apr 18, 2007
Lori Petty does a nice job in the title role of this enjoyable 1995 feature based on the postapocalyptic SF comic book and set in the year 2033.
