Terms of Endearment Reviews

Good cast. Shame about the rest. Pauline Kael was right. It's 온라인카지노추천 charm, very lightly peppered with the smoke and mirrors of cinema eclat, stemming mainly from a great cast. Doesn't leave you with much else.

This is one of the better expressions of the spirit of the US in the early /mid eighties. Bittersweet and profoundly honest, yet not melodramatic. I feel like I grew up here

Exceptional acting, top notch script. A perennial favorite

This Best picture Oscar winning film shows a loving woman who struggles with dysfunctional relationships with her husband, mother and oldest son and ultimately her health in this heartwarming, dramadey tearjerker that keeps you glued to the screen until it ends. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five.

A classic tear jerker due to its emotionally brutal final 15 minutes. Needed infinite more Jack content cause what was in here was so incredible.

All time favorite movie. The film takes you through every emotion. Makes me cry, or at least extremely welled up every time.

The big winner of the 1983 Oscars, this movie holds up relatively well, although there are portions that feel a bit sitcom-y. But that's to be expected, considering director/screenwriter Brooks' background. Overall, though, this remains a funny, touching movie about the relationship of a mother and daughter over several decades. MacLaine and Nicholson won all the awards when the movie was released, but the heart and soul of this movie is Winger, whose effortless and natural performance is wondrous. In my initial review, I said MacLaine provides the humor, but Winger provides the heart. And I stand by that assertion. There are moments toward the end of the film, particularly a scene with Winger and her children, that are so gut wrenching, you can't help but wonder if your entire emotional life will be altered. And as a behind-the-scenes fanatic, I'm utterly fascinated with this movie because Winger and MacLaine hated working with each other so much. It's a tribute to their craftsmanship that they were able to turn a bad off-screen relationship into something so compelling!

As was started elsewhere, this is a classic well acted tear jerker. Get your hankies out and enjoy a good cry.

Terms of Endearment is funny and touching, and filled with wonderful performances. By the end of the movie, you'll have felt every emotion and the story stays with you for a long, long time. The soundtrack is excellent, one of my favourite themes, actually. Micheal Gore, well done!

Terms of Endearment is perhaps one of the worst movies ever made. The acting is atrocious, the plot vapid and the obvious attempt to cover it all my emotional claptrap makes it even worse.

I haven't seen this film since 1983 and it still packed the same wallop when I rewatched it tonight.

"Terms of Endearment" is both a touching and funny movie that is extremely well acted by all principle characters. It's not hard to see why both Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson won Academy Awards for this movie as they switch between emotions with such ease throughout. Debra Winger gives a powerful performance as Emma, daughter to Shirley MacLane's Aurora,  that is pivotal to the movies central plot as it follows her 30 year relationship with her mother.  What " Terms of Endearment"  does have is charm, which it relies heavily on, as it manages to incorporate many dramatic threads into its narrative. More Known for sitcom and T.V. writing and directing (  including The Simpsons ) James L. Brooks managed to deliver a warm hearted film that gave him multiple Academy Awards for directing , screenplay  and best picture.

I found this a surprisingly amusing film in parts. I hadn't realised both Jack Nicholson and John Lithgow are in this film and im a fan of both actors. One scene with Nicholsons character, Garett, stood on top of his open top car as it goes from the beach into the sea was a, uh, interesting scene to watch, to say the least!. I'll elaborate no more. I hadn't considered watching it before, assuming its nothing but a weepy and while there are definitely weepy type moments (sad moments), I don't think it'd be fair to say its a pure 'chick flick' - for one thing, the characters aren't all teenagers or women in their 20s/30s, which is perhaps refreshing to see, even though it dates from the 1980s!. I enjoyed the dialogue at times and I found it an easy and enjoyable watch for the most part - there are some cliched elements to the film but its not as bad, or moreso boring, as I probably assumed it would be when I was younger. If anything, its (partly) about people learning to realise that things aren't always what they seem. I would recommend this film to others, yes.

It's full of great performances, and some honest human drama and even a few laughs, but the pacing is horrendous. And Winger becomes soo obnoxious that I'm left not caring about the schmaltzy attempts to pull at the heartstrings.

One of the top ten best movies of all time.

Terms Of Endearment is by no means a bad movie, it just... wasn't for me. It's one of the most realistic movies I've ever seen... which is not exactly a compliment. At the end of the movie I literally turned to my partner and asked... why did they make this movie? I just wasn't sure what I was supposed to get out of it. Again, that doesn't make it a bad movie and I'm willing to admit maybe the problem was me, and I just wasn't the target audience.

Entertainment from the Boomer generation features some of the most self-absorbed characters, and yet, for some reason, it works. Irreverence has the potential to undercut poignancy, but it never does in this movie, a movie that is just all about pathos. There's something to be said about the skills of the creators of this movie who craft a story about people that are impossible to really like yet find a humanity in them that makes them, well, endearing. I believe that the shallowness of all of these characters accentuates their hidden depths, leading to a surprisingly heart-wrenching ending.

A family drama that surrounds you. A film that portrays many aspects of life that as humans we must face. I loved it.

A movie with the rare opportunity for a grown man to act with empathy and warmth . . . especially in the America of the early 80's. And yeah, it is emotional when your daughter dies before you.

There was nothing endearing about this movie. Painful to watch.
