Tetris Reviews
Great Movie, really enjoyed it. There was a lot of tention which i didnt expect and I sure did learn alot about the creation of tetris
Story of a dream come true, a fighter ready to risk it all. I don't usually watch these kinds of movies. But this movie made me laugh many times and it engaged me the entire time. So much drama, implications and comedy spread out. What seems to be played out clichés come up in new ways with new mixes creative with a realism twist. No need to love tetris or geeky stuff to love this film. The stakes and pace can work for any drama, politics, socials and nerd culture lover.
Masterpiece of a story-telling for the story of tetris!
Didn't grip me. 3 1/2 star because my partner enjoyed it
As a gamer since the age of 3, I managed to live through this saga. There were rumors, and limited information articles, that told pieces of the story. There were questions about the Tengen version of Tetris and why it was so different in appearance from Nintendo's. I was an adult when I heard the real story. Tetris tells the unbelievable and absolutely insane story of dealing with the communists in the 80's. Ignorance and naivety on the part of Hank Rogers, got him involved in one of the craziest business deals, with unfathomable results. My father, in his mid 80's still plays Tetris on his almost 40 year old GameBoy, every single day. He'll play through to completion. Set it down, and in a few hours, he'll pick it up and start playing it again. I may be fanboying a bit because I did get to meet Alexey Pajitnov once, and told him how his game still occasionally haunts my dreams. The movie even mentions that, and those 512 Million of us that have played it, understand completely.
Tetris is a solid film, not focusing so much on the game industry rather tahn on USRR, but that emane love for videogames in some really fun secuences such as the one set in the Nintendo office.
Really enjoyed the movie. Read the History vs Hollywood after… so they basically have all the facts but threw in some extra drama. But to me, it seemed most of it was true (unlike BlackBerry where a lot of stuff was added, made up or twisted around).
Unexpectedly delightful!
Creative, entertaining, really well-paced biopic of the people involved in what I had no idea was a complicated route to bring this game to the world, one of the few I actually played for a while, in the early days of PCs, at almost an addicted manner. At times the violence was a bit softened - almost too much of a comedic touch at moments - as the situation probably was even more risky and complicated. But it was a winning story worth being told. Congrats to Apple for investing in telling it!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Such an under-the/radar hit. Iykyk.
A great little movie that gives a fascinating backstory to a great video game.
Tetris surprised me with how gripping and entertaining it was. I didn’t expect a story about securing video game rights to feel like a high-stakes thriller, but the mix of Cold War tension, corporate drama, and Henk Rogers’ relentless determination kept me hooked. Taron Egerton’s performance brought so much energy to the role, and the 80s aesthetic, with its nods to 8-bit graphics, added a fun, nostalgic touch. It’s a fascinating underdog story that exceeded my expectations and made me see the iconic game in a whole new way.
A very fun movie that offers a good dose of the drama behind the real-life game.
Easily one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and easily in my top three favorite movies. I highly recommend watching this movie.
The main theme of the theme is how capitalism can make a 8 bit video game the object of intense geopoliticking. The movie is very informative of the tetris video game that has been staple of the modern life of almost every person in this world. The movie becomes a bit unrealistically dramatic towards the end but just light enough to keep the viewer from disengaging from the movie. A must watch for any serious gamer to know the story of one of the very first globally successful video game.
This movie was unexpected. Whilst I thought I was getting a drama, it turned into a political thriller and wow was it great. Sure, slow to start with the first 30>45 minutes dragging but that last hour had me on the edge of my seat.
Who’d have thunk it? Mind blowing and surprisingly complex as it unravels to resemble a spy thriller complete with spies, communists, traitors, and double crosses. Anyone familiar with Tetris or video games, in general, should see this.
