The Foot Fist Way Reviews
Pretty terrible. The writing...the acting, ouch it is bad.
Stoner movie.
Have to be a fan of Danny McBride's humor to enjoy this meandering martial arts movie. This is the genesis of what he does with a Clerks feel to it.
Some of the jokes fall a little flat but it's got a great cast and clever ideas. Some of the jokes were great.
This movie would never be made in 2021. It is likely to offend almost everyone and is cringey but bold. I liked it
3.7 . Is it possible for Danny McBride to not be hilarious
Danny McBride is very funny. This movie about his experiences in Taekwondo is the start of a very funny career. As a Taekwondo practitioner it was obvious to me that McBride had really spent his time in and around the Dojang. I get the humor. I recognize that his character is a caricature. McBride is part of the joke. The movie is low budget. The rest of the cast is mediocre, at best. It could have been shorter and better filmed, for sure. I, actually, think a McBride remake of this film which was a little less crude, and a little more sardonic, could be a winner. There are some very funny moments.
Bad watch, won't watch again, and can't recommend unless you're a die hard Danny McBride fan. This was clearly meant to be McBride's attempt at "The Art of Self-Defense" (fantastic movie). I feel like he felt he was obligated to one-up Michael Cera, and then after he made it realized it was Jesse Eisenberg. Unfortunately, Danny McBride has 1 character he plays, himself, and he can actually do quite a lot with it, but if you like that character then you'll like this character. I do like that he actual does some actual martial arts / fighting in this, but it is outweighed with obnoxiousness, bullying children, and a complete waste of Collette Wolfe.
First time I saw this, it didn't click. Second time I saw this, I thought it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Very funny and well made, subtle dark humor, once it clicks, you will love it.
This is a surprisingly good low budget black comedy, the pace is a little slower but there is a lot of humor in this movie, if you like East Bound and Down you will probably like this.
This movie is actually great you just have to realize it was shot for less than 100k. If you know what a McDojo is then you will get the humor, if not you will miss much of it.
While sporadically funny in moments due to Danny McBride's trademark sense of humor, The Foot Fist Way ends up feeling like a routine, throwaway comedy that leaves you with a few chuckles and not much else. Ultimately forgettable. 2.5/5 stars
Ive watched this movie 7 times now. I think its Danny Mcbrides best performace so far. Its a story I have seen echoed through the various Martial Arts schools Ive been too, with one extra ingredient. Comedy!! This film is funny. I love the writing by the 3 main actors. They should be proud. Jody Hill does a nice job directing as well. I really like the soundtrack by Pyramid as well. Dog wild in heaven rocks. This movie might not appeal to people who take themselves too seriously though. For example the dark critics on this site (as you can see by their reviews). Personally,I think they may not have been born with the humor gene. If you love a good roast, then check this one out!! Well done guys!.
The first act of this movie is phenomenal but everything else went down from their. Danny McBride is hilarious as always and his sidekick little Latino kid is great. Everybody else was ok. In the end it's a mediocre movie. I still want an eastbound and down movie.
Your mom won't like this but I thought it was very funny!
Danny McBride runs a Tae Kwon Do school in a strip mall. He not a good teacher. He has problems with his unfaithful wife. He idolizes martial arts film actor Chuck "The Truck" Wallace. If you've seen "Eastbound & Down", you essentially know what to expect here. I like this, but it would not surprise me if someone didn't like it. It reminds me of "Napoleon Dynamite" in the way it rejects conventional jokes in favour of constructing a world and letting humour fall out of the way it pushes that world to its logical extreme. If you aren't attuned with it's world (and I'm really not in the case of "Napoleon Dynamite"), you probably won't find it funny. I'll say this ... the scene where McBride hits on one of his attractive students is one of the most excruciatingly painful funny sequences I've ever seen.
Being a big fan of Danny McBride I thought the Foot Fist Way was hilarious. There are many laugh out loud moments and even though this is the same character Danny McBride normally plays he does it extremely well as he had me in tears. The way the movie was shot reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite a little bit but honestly if you think Danny McBride is funny I would definitely give this movie a chance.
I remember hearing about this movie some years ago and wanting to see it. It wasn't the type of movie that I'd probably would've gone out of my way to buy, there was a period there between 2006-08 where I bought a ton of DVDs and even then I probably wouldn't have bought this movie. Anyway, thanks to Amazon Prime I was finally able to watch this movie. And, honestly, I gotta say I'm a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love the film's parodying tone of martial arts instructors and even those super cheap 90s martial arts movie that you'd see on 온라인카지노추천, like the sequels to Cyborg or Bloodsport. So that is appreciated. But, realistically speaking, this isn't a good movie. I really like Danny McBride, in fact, I think he's supremely underrated in some respects, though Eastbound and Down did him a lot of favors, but I think this guy is perfection personified at these roles where he's a major dick to everyone. His persona is the type that would make fun of someone in a wheelchair without even thinking or hesitating about it. This film sees some of that, but it's more toned down. Really, his character is more delusional, as he fashions himself an incredible teacher and he assumes that the new, pretty girl that signs up at his school has some sort of romantic interest in him (she doesn't), and he goes after her in one of the film's funniest scenes when he finds out his wife has cheated on him. But, much like Napoleon Dynamite, this film was picked up hoping it would have replicated that Napoleon's success, this has to be one of those acquired tastes. Though this isn't nearly the extreme that Napoleon Dynamite is, where people either loved it or hated it. Danny McBride is real good in this film, and he's a surprisingly likable character that you actually somewhat root for in the end. It took me off guard because, like I said, Danny has made his bread and butter in playing utterly detestable, yet hilarious, characters. So it's a bit of a change of pace seeing him play someone that you actually like. But the fact of the matter is that the film feels more like a series of skits barely held together by a plot thread. And not all of the skits are hits, if we're being honest. And the ones that do aren't really that hilarious. There's little plot threads here and there, like Henry struggling with self-confidence, Fred's wife cheating on her and Fred's obsession with his hero, Chuck 'The Truck' Wallace (a movie star from one of those cheap direct-to-video martial arts films). Inevitably, Chuck and Frank's wife meet and you know what happens, but it's not like the film was really leading to that. It's something they just stumble upon. And that's fine, I think it's a pretty cool idea to have Fred confront his hero for being a piece of shit, but that doesn't really constitute much of an actual narrative. This is really average at best, it's never bad at any point, but considering the people involved and considering what they went on to do, this includes Jody Hill, then you would have expected something much better. It's not bad, not nearly close to that, but I came out of it a little disappointed. There's a couple of bright spots here and there, but there's not enough of this movie that's good. I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm sure there's others that will absolutely love this and that's totally fine as well. Average at best.
They couldn't call this movie "Tae Kwon Do" due to legal threats so they had to use the literal English translation. Needless to say this is almost a documentary of life in the Carolinas - especially the Carolina Tae Kwon Do culture. Rusty in parts as most low-budget independent movies can be - but well crafted.
