Das Vorspiel Reviews
The slow creep of the camera mirrors the incremental build in pressure; this is the kind of tension that feels like a tightening chokehold on the audience.

A storyline that is both unconvincing in itself and terminated by a sudden and empty denouement.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 4, 2022
[A] sticky, stop-start drama set in the exacting, pressurised realm of classical music.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 28, 2022
There is little exposition, everything just unfolds in series of scenes sometimes quiet, sometimes unexpected, until the dramatic ending, but it is a complex portrait and Nina Hoss holds us in her power throughout.

The Audition is a complicated well-acted web. The lesson here is that you cannot ask others to fulfill your dreams.
